[Challenge March 2008:
Lifer: Brian
Place: Shopping mall
Stuff: lipstick
Quote: "Oh thanks god you're here!"
Costume: Devil]
“I thought LA would be great. But now I really hate it!” Brian
said stepping along the streets of the town.
It was another sunny day in the Californian metropolis. Brian and his fiancée
Delta were on their holidays. But though the sun was shining and everyone around
them was smiling they were arguing all the time. Well, he was arguing…
“God, Delta! Just say something! Why can’t you stop being that perfect?
Nobody is perfect! Never heard this before?” He grabbed her arm. But instead
of reacting she just walked and loosened his grip.
“Delta! Damn it! I can’t stand this any longer. Just…”
He let go off her arm and listened to a confident voice in the background.
“Man, this voice sounds horrible.” Brian giggled and tried to find
the singing girl. “But… wait a second!”
“What’s it this time, Brian?” Delta looked around and found
a girl sitting on a bench. “There she is. So, let’s go! I
need a new dress for the awards next week in Sydney.”
“But Delta, she’s singing one of my songs!”
“Oh really? That’s nice.” She said sarcastically and grabbed
his hand. “Come on!”
“What do you think? You’re going and I’m sitting there waiting
for you, hun. My feet are killing me!”
“Just fine with me.” She said and walked away without looking at
him. But Brian knew that she was faking a smile. Delta never lost her temper.
And that was what drove him crazy.
“How can somebody be always in a good mood? But… she’s just
pretending to be happy. It’s always the same. ‘Smile, Brian! The
people are staring at us.’ Woah, I hate that!” He shrugged his shoulders
and went straight into the direction of the .
“Oh babe. I was feeling so horny. The night became a porn movie. Your
performance was phoney. Auf Wiedersehen bitch!” He heard her sing. And
again he had to giggle. He had never heard a girl singing one of his songs in
another country than Ireland or England. That was really something special.
She had her hair in a high ponytail. Some strands falling in her face. She noticed
Brian staring at her and put out the headphones of her iPod.
“May I?” He asked and sat down next to her. “I’ve never
met someone listening to my songs in the USA.” His eyes sparkled down
at her when he grabbed the headphones.
“Oh, I like that one: Yes, it’s a loose loose situation till the
day you die.” He smiled from ear to ear while singing.
“I love it, too. But I like football and I always know the score.”
She laughed and started nodding her head. “You’ll never see me crying
to a movie with my mother in law.”
“This can’t be true! Every woman loves those kitschy movies.”
“Not me! I would always prefer a good football match.”
“Then you’re the opposite of my fiancée.” He looked
to the ground and didn’t notice her disparaging gaze. “What? Don’t
you wanna say that she’s so damn pretty? Or better: ‘I like your
new style, Brian. She’s really good for you. I’m so glad that you’ll
marry her!’”
“Uhm, no! I just wanted to be polite. But to be honest: She’s nothing
but a false chick.”
“I know, I shouldn’t say this… but you’re right.”
He smirked and shrugged his shoulders.
“She’s right with what?” Suddenly Delta stood in front of
them. Brian could hear that she was angry. But again there was no expression
on her face.
“She’s right in… Westlife being the worst band ever.”
Brian stood up and placed himself on Delta’s side. “Got to go. Have
a nice stay in LA!” He waved her good bye and walked away with loads of
bags in his hands.
“You bought everything?” Brian asked his fiancée.
“Yep, I did. And I’ve got a really cute suit for you, sweetie.”
Now her eyes were shining like little diamonds. Brian knew that she was only
that happy when she bought something or was in front of hundreds of photographers.
When they entered their hotel room Brian noticed that he had something in his
pocket that had not been there before.
“Oh my gosh, I still have her iPod.” He thought. “Delta?
I’m out for an hour or so.”
“Yeah, just leave me alone. I don’t know which dress I should choose.
Can’t you help me, please?” She begged and came closer to him. Delta
pressed her flat stomach against his belly. She wrapped her arms round his neck
and kissed him passionately.
“Oh Delta! You know that I’m not good in giving advices. And to
be honest, I need some time for myself. It’s been three weeks just the
both of us. I need space!” He grabbed his jacket and left the room.
“I need to find her.” He said and took the iPod out of his pocket.
On the backside he found her name. “, he? Cute name.”
With a smile on his lips Brian went back to the shopping street. He needed to
find her. Cause just “” was not enough to find a person in
such a huge city. But she was still there.
“Are ya waiting here for someone, ?” He asked and handed her
the iPod.
“Oh thanks god you’re here!” She said in relief.
“You’re welcome, .”
“Just a little question: Was it the first time we met a while ago?”
“Yeah. Why?”
“I was just wondering…”
“Your name’s engraved on the player.” He laughed and
took the headphones again.
“I miss it when we used to dance…” Brian sang along and smiled
from ear to ear just like the last time. He hardly knew this girl but felt already
comfortable with her.
“Fancy a coffee? There’s a nice little café near the beach.”
asked out of a sudden and smiled when he nodded.
They walked along the beach, talked a while and went into in the cosy café.
The dark table and the white cushions invited them to take a seat. heard
the ocean crashing onto the beach. She loved LA. And she loved it with all its
sunny days and the endless beach almost in front of her door.
“God Brian, I love LA so much! Do you hear the ocean?”
He just nodded and looked at her. She wore no make-up and her hair was a mess.
But still she was beautiful in her own way. She was just natural.
“I could never leave this place!” Her eyes were sparkling when she
saw another wave rolling onto the beach.
“So, . Where are ya from? You’re accent doesn’t sound
like the real American one.”
“You’re right, Brian.” She smiled. “I’m from .
And I really really hope that I’ll never talk or sound like Michael.”
“Who’s Michael? Your boyfriend?” Brian asked while sipping
at his coffee.
“Well, he’s my husband.”
“You’re married already?” He was shocked. “I mean: How
old are you?”
“23.” She nodded and blushed.
“And you’re married with 23? I made the same mistake, hun!”
“Hey! It’s my life! Don’t bother me with any advices. I know
that we’re meant to be. Otherwise I wouldn’t be here in LA!”
She got angry and showed it by clenching her teeth.
“OK, OK! I didn’t want to annoy you. You’re old enough to
know what you’re doing. I just wanted to understand you. Sorry.”
He raised his hands and stood up.
“I’m sorry, Brian. But all my friends and relatives are annoying
me and I just don’t need a stranger to tell me that I made a mistake.”
Still he wanted to leave. But she held his hands and pulled him back onto his
chair.
“I’m really sorry. And you’ve been married, too. So you should
really understand me.”
“Yup, I think I do.”
The sun sank down into the ocean when they left the café. Brian promised
to call her the next day and went back to his fiancée.
“Oh . I know Delta. She’ll be more than angry.”
“Nevermind. She should be really happy anyway.” blushed again.
“Why?”
“Cause she’s with you. Bye, tiger.” She kissed his cheek and
walked into the opposite direction.
“Was that a compliment?” Brian yelled and smiled. But he got no
response.
“Brian! Where were you all this time? I really need your advice now.
My blue dress doesn’t look that good without you. I mean: You have to
wear your suit. I wanna see if our outfits are matching or not. You know that
these Australian awards are more than important for me. And they are important
to you. Your album was a disaster and now we need some good news.” She
demanded and grabbed his suit.
After the try-on Delta went into the shower.
“Wow, one minute for me own.” He sighed and fell onto the bed.
“Brian, please try on the blue shirt again!”
But he just sighed again and dialled ’s number.
“I know it’s wrong to call you now. But I need to talk to someone.”
“Michael’s not at home tonight. So, it’s not a real problem.
Come to my house. I’ll send you the address. OK?”
“Thank you so much! Bye bye.” He smiled and waited for her to answer.
“I just said: It’s no problem. I’m home alone. I’ll
see ya later, Brian.”
Smiling he went into the bathroom. And the first thing he noticed was her shower
gel. It smelled disgusting and way too sweet.
“Delta. I’m away for a few hours. There is a club at the beach and
I need a beer right now.”
“Oh sounds nice. I’ll be ready in a minute.”
“But… I don’t think that you’ll like it. I saw a spot
on TV last night. It’s crowded and the people are smoking in there.”
His conscience bit him but he had to lie. It wasn’t fair. He knew it.
But he needed the distance from his fiancée.
“OK, but…” She couldn’t answer cause he was already
outside.
“Oh my gosh, I’m out!” He sighed in relief and noticed that he had been doing this pretty often that day. “I really have to think about my feelings!”
Brian reached her house and stopped in front of the door. His thoughts ran
around between and Delta. Why was he here and not in the arms of the woman
he loved? He wanted to marry her. Why was he standing in front of the house
of this woman he hardly knew?
“Brian! Hey! Why are you standing there? It’s pretty cold outside.”
smiled at him and led him into her house. “I know it’s not
as big as the house you live in. But it’s ours. And we really adore it.
So take a seat. I’m in the kitchen. Do you want something to eat?”
“Yeah. I’m starving actually. And by the way: I really like your
house.” He let himself fall onto the sofa and took the remote control.
“Oh, I see you’ve already found everything. I just need another
minute.” She smiled and went back into the kitchen.
Again his thoughts kept spinning around her. was different to all the
woman he met before. She never tried to brag with anything just to impress him.
“Hope you like red wine. It’s the only alcohol I can offer. Michael
hates it. But I need my wine sometimes.”
“It’s ok, . I like wine.”
carried two plates with original food into the living room and
placed them in front of him.
“Woah, real food!” His eyes widened when he took the fork
and ate the first bite. “That’s great!”
“Thank you. I love it, too.” She smiled and took a seat next to
him. “But my husband is more into burgers and stuff like that. But I don’t
think that I would still fit into my fav jeans if I would just live from American
food.”
A smile lit up Brian’s face. “I totally understand that. Now that
I’m living in Australia I’m living from fast food exclusively. And
look at my belly.” He laughed and patted his stomach.
“Yeah, I can see that.”
“Hey!” He smiled and pinched her playfully.
After the dinner went into the kitchen again while Brian looked around.
The house wasn’t really big but he liked it. He saw drawings and pictures
everywhere.
“Did you draw all this stuff?” He asked while stepping into the
small kitchen.
“Yep, I did. It’s my hobby. Michael’s not at home very often.
So I’ve got the time to do it. You like it?”
“Yeah! I love it.”
He sat on the board and looked at her a bit too long.
“Why are you staring at me? Is there something in my face? Any stains?”
He smiled again. “No, not really. It’s just…” Brian
jumped off the board and placed himself right behind her. He wrapped his arms
round her waist and held her really close. “You’re different. I
never met a woman like you before.”
“Brian! I’m married and you’ll be soon. We shouldn’t
talk like that!” She demanded and left him alone. As fast as she could
she sat down on the couch and grabbed a magazine.
“Sorry, . I didn’t want to importune you.” But there
was no response. She just continued reading. “I think I should just leave
then.”
“I think so, too. Even though… I’ve enjoyed the whole evening.
But your fiancée is waiting for you, Brian.”
Brian left the house and stood there for a while. He looked at the doorplate.
“Michael & Bright” He mumbled.
“Hey mate!” A male voice woke him from his dreams.
“Mh?”
“Hey, I’m Michael.”
“Oh yeah. I’m Brian.” They shook hands. But when Brian wanted
to leave Michael held him back.
“Just come in. already told me that you were about to visit her.
So I managed to come home earlier.” He smirked and continued. “Ya
know? I had to see who’s in my house chatting with my wife and stuff.”
“Yeah, I see. But I really have to leave now. My…”
“Oh my gosh, Mike!!!” yelled and jumped into the arms of her
husband. “I didn’t expect you this early! God, I’m so happy
that you’re here.” She kissed him passionately.
Brian looked at them and sighed in disappointment. “Everybody’s
happy.” He thought and sighed again.
“Brian? Still here?” She asked puzzled.
“Don’t be that impolite, babe. Brian, come in!” Michael demanded.
Instead of leaving Brian decided to make the most of now. He enjoyed ’s
presence around him and Michael seemed to be a nice guy. So he stepped in again
and sat down on the couch.
The evening went on pretty well. They laughed a lot and he felt comfortable
until Michael asked him where Delta was.
“Oh yeah… She’s in the hotel… I just needed some time
without her. Hope you won’t tell her.” Brian blushed.
noticed that his skin was pale. He lived in Australia and was now in LA
for three weeks. Why was he this pale?
“No, mate! Of course I won’t tell her. But we have to meet her.
I saw her on TV and she seems to be a great person.” Mike suggested.
“Oh yeah, she is.” Brian shook his head trying to hide his feelings.
But noticed it.
“Well, thanks for the hospitality. But I have to leave now. She’s
waiting for me.” Brian stood up and went to the house door.
“I’ll lead you outside.” said and ran after him. She
closed the door when they were outside.
“Brian… I’ve noticed that you’re not feeling that well.
What’s wrong?” She asked concerned.
“It’s nothing. Listen: She’s waiting for me. I’m sure
Michael’s going to call me tomorrow. And then we can talk for a little
while. Delta wants to go shopping. There is a costume party in Sydney soon.
And her mum’s the host. So I have to look perfect. Maybe you two could
help us choosing the costumes…”
“Sure.”
The next day Brian told Delta that he met the singing girl again in the club
he went to the evening before.
“She was there with her husband, Michael. And I’ve invited them
to help us with the costumes. You surely need a woman to choose the right one.”
Brian smiled down at her and just prayed that she’d say ‘yes’.
And luck was on his side this time.
“That’s so nice of you, sweetie. I really like the idea of shopping
with a woman that’s not grumpy all the time.”
The four of them met in the biggest shopping mall in LA. It was late afternoon
and most of the people were at the beach. So it wasn’t that crowed as
in the evenings.
“Hey .” Brian yelled when he saw her.
The four of them hugged and Michael led them into the costume shop.
“Well, here you’ll find the best stuff in LA.” He said proudly.
“? May I take your iPod and sit outside? I’m sure Delta’s
gonna choose for me anyway. So why should I stand such a stress if it’s
not necessary?”
“Come on! You see: Michael is helping her already. Let me help you then…
And I think right at the moment he’s more interested in the great Delta
than in keeping me company.”
Brian gave in and started to look for a costume.
“Well, tiger. Here’s the perfect one!” laughed and
handed him a devil costume.
“I think I deserve this after yesterday. Right?”
“You mean because of the ‘-you’re-different-thing’?
Not really. But it’s so damn cute and you’ll look so sweet in this
costume.” She was teasing him and got a playful pinch in return. “Ouch!
This isn’t really gentleman-like.”
“No, it’s not. But wait! In a minute I’ll be a devil. And
then I can do whatever I want!” He smirked and went into the cabin.
“Oh my gosh, and I’m afraid you will…” She laughed and
placed herself in front of the cabin to make sure that she would be the first
person seeing him.
“Ha! It fits. And , I really like it.” Brian smiled and looked
into the mirror.
“Oh yeah. But there’s one thing missing. Wait.”
He stood there puzzled when he saw her walking into Delta's direction. They talked
a while before she came back holding something in her hand.
“What are ya up to?”
“When I was a kid my aunt always drew little hearts and stars on my cheeks.
And now I wanted to do the same to you. A real costume party is nothing without
lipstick on the cheek.” She laughed and tried to draw a red heart on his
cheek.
“You’re the devil, right?” She asked and continued when he
nodded. “So, I’ll give you my soul and you’ll hold still…”
“OK.” He smirked and bent his head. But as the lipstick came closer
to his face he changed his mind.
“Please, just give it a try!” She begged.
But he was much stronger and in the end he had a red stroke on his face.
“Are you serious, girlie?” Brian laughed when he looked into the
mirror. “This lipstick looks horrible. But what about you?”
“Oh no, Brian! Don’t even think of it.” She laughed and ran
away.
“You sold your soul. And now I can do anything to you, girlie!”
Brian laughed and of course he caught after a few meters.
“Did I miss something, ?” Michael asked when he saw them
laughing and hugging.
“Of course not, Mike. We were just having fun.” apologized
and kissed him. “No need to worry, baby.”
“Hey you two. I’ve got a great idea.” Delta yelled. “Would
you like to visit us in Australia? Or much better: You’ll come to our
wedding in three weeks.”
just stood there and tried to fake a smile. She didn’t know what
to say. Why should she go to the wedding of Delta and Brian? She hardly knew
them…
“Of course we wanna come. Thank you, Delta!” Mike was hugging Brian
and then Delta. just looked at Brian.
“Mmmhhh, so we’ll meet next time at your wedding, he?” She
still stared at him.
“No, of course not! It’s our last evening here in LA and we want
to party. And of course we need you to show us the fanciest clubs in town.”
Delta was still smiling. Was she just dumb? Or was it just the fact that she
didn’t want to see that the whole friendship-thing wouldn’t work?
But Mike was happy as well. He smiled and held his wife close in his embrace.
In the evening the four of them went out to party. And of course everybody
knew who Delta was. Though no one had ever heard her music she was in the papers
and on TV sometimes. The security men knew all the celebrities and that included
her and Brian. They looked at for a while until Brian called for her.
“! Come in!”
She went into the club and was surprised. She never went to such a club. All
the “ordinary people” weren’t allowed to visit it. The only
possibility was to go there with prominent figures.
She looked around and found a tremendous bar. “Oh my gosh! Mike, look!
There’s a smoking lounge.”
“Yeah, ! Just go there…” Mike told her and went straight
onto the dance floor. Delta followed him.
“So, it’s just the both of us, girlie.”
“Stop it!” demanded and punched him playfully.
“Hey, don’t destroy my outfit. Delta will kill you!” Brian
tried to be serious but failed completely. He burst into laughter and led her
to the lounge. “By the way: What do I have to stop?”
“Stop calling me ‘girlie’!”
“But you are! Look at your make-up! And do I really have to mention your
dress? This sexy little thing women use to call a dress?” He laughed again
and sat onto the couch. “Boah, this is good.” He sighed and looked
to Delta who was waving at him. “And she’s having a good time, too.”
“I like my dress. Especially because it’s the only dress I have.”
giggled and looked to the dance floor too. And Mike had a good time,
too. “Well, I think… If he’s not watching me… I’ll
risk it.”
“What are ya risking, ?” Brian asked puzzled. “Oh, I
see. Give me one, please!” He begged when he saw her lightening a cigarette.
“I thought you’ve stopped smoking?!”
“And you?” Brian smiled and leaned back. “Come here! Just
enjoy the silence and smoke this cigarette before they catch us.”
And so she did. They enjoyed their cigarettes and went to the dance floor.
“Oh no! You smell like an ashtray, .” Mike said in disgust.
“Sorry.”
“And you, Brian?” Delta put in after breathing in the scent of fresh
smoke.
“Oh no, Delta. He didn’t have a cigarette.” said before
Brian could tell her the truth.
“OK…” Delta leaned her head onto Brian’s shoulder and
sighed.
“Who’s thirsty?” Brian asked to break the silence.
“I am!” yelled. But the other two just stood there and shook
their heads.
“I think Delta and I… we’re staying here. If it’s ok…”
Mike said and got a nod as an answer.
So and Brian went to the bar on their own.
“Shall we risk something again and order loads of vodka?” Brian
smirked.
“Oh yeah. And afterwards we’ll hide in the lounge.”
“Wow, they’re still dancing, . You sure your husband isn’t
into any drugs?”
“He’s not! He would never do things like that. His mother would
hate him!” laughed and leaned her head onto Brian’s strong
shoulder.
“?” He asked in a low voice.
“Mh?” She was half asleep now. They definitely had too many drinks.
“I know it’s wrong… but… May I kiss you?”
Instead of giving an answer she looked into his deep blue eyes.
“I’m sorry, I…” He couldn’t finish his sentence
cause he already felt her soft lips on his own.
The shy kiss deepened and they nearly forgot everything around them.
“Brian, I don’t think that we should do this. I mean, you’re
en…”
He kissed her again and pulled her behind the couch.
“Where are they, Mike?” Brian and could hear Delta. She
stood right in front of them. But the room was too dark. She couldn’t
see them.
“Let’s go to the bar. I need water. They have to be somewhere around
here. They won’t get lost, Delta.”
And so they disappeared again. Delta and Michael left two giggling people behind
the couch.
“They almost caught us, Brian.” said totally shocked.
“Call me tiger, girlie.” He smiled and kissed her again.
“Ok… tiger… What about getting it on now?”
She led his hand to her breast and moaned when he touched it. “That’s
good!”
“Sssh!” He held his finger on her lips. “I don’t want
them to find us. I can imagine something better than arguing with Delta and
Mike.” He smirked and kissed her again.
She pressed him onto the floor without wasting time. Her eyes were full
of lust and want when she pulled off his shirt. His short blond chest hair was
an eye catcher.
“I know what you want to say. But Delta hates my chest hair. So I have
to shave my chest from time to time.” Brian said apologizing.
“I do not wanna hear her name within the next few minutes!”
opened the zip of his dark jeans while he was trying to pull off her
thong. After a lot of kisses he was already naked. He couldn’t manage
to undo her slip. So she did it on her own.
“Men and technology… It’s always the same…” She
smiled and sank down on his lap.
“Woah, !” He cried out and met her movements halfway.
“Sssh!” She kissed him and increased the speed. Every thrust was
sending a shiver down her spine.
“My turn.” He gasped and laid her onto the floor. He covered her
body with his and entered her again.
Though she thought she already had had great sex… But that was more than
amazing. His movements became faster and faster with every second until he felt
her walls tightening around his member. “, I can’t hold it
any longer!” He cried out and came with one last hard thrust.
“You know that this was only a one-night-stand. And we should keep this
as a secret.” said while looking around to find her thong. “Here
it is.” She sighed and kissed him. “But I’ll never forget
this, tiger!”
She looked to the dance floor. Her husband was still dancing. As fast as possible
she climbed on the couch and lightened a cigarette.
“Hey, you two! We were searching for you since hours now!” Delta
said wrapping her arms around Brian’s neck. “Why are you sweating?”
“Erm… We were dancing all the time. Behind the bar… there
is a rock bar…” Brian tried to be confident and she really accepted
his excuse.
“Well , I think we should go home now. I’m tired already. I
think we’ll see you guys in three weeks then…”
They said their goodbyes and saw Brian watching her. She felt not guilty
at all. This feeling scared her. Was this man at her side really the man of
her dreams?
The next few weeks went by really fast. tried not to think of Brian.
But it wasn’t that easy. She knew that it had been just the alcohol when
he slept with her and she knew that she was married. She had to wipe away many
tears when she bought her dress for Brian’s wedding. The memories of him
were always on her mind. His attempts to calm down when he laughed to hard and
the pair of beautiful blue eyes hit her mind. “I just have to forget him!”
She told herself and wiped the last tear away.
“So, Mike… What do you think? Is that ok?” She said stepping
out of the fitting rooms.
“You look stunning, girlie!”
That was too much. She ran into the cabin again and cried her heart out.
Mike didn’t ask her what was wrong. He just prayed that she’d be
in a better mood when they’d arrive in Sydney.
Brian was back in Australia. He had to manage the Australian Music Awards and he had to smile all the time. “I need to concentrate on Delta! I’ll marry her in a few weeks. I love her!” He knew that he was faking a feeling that wasn’t there anymore. In the last few weeks before the wedding he let everything slide. His beard grew as well as his hair. He knew that Delta hated it but he needed this to get over . She was married to Michael. And it wasn’t fair to love a married woman. Michael had been a great guy. Why should he hurt him? And most of all: Why should he hurt his fiancée? She was the woman of his life. She had always been there when he needed her. This wasn’t fair!
Michael and landed in Australia the day before the wedding. It was
the first time in Sydney for the both of them.
“Come on, babe! We have to find our hotel.” Mike took her hand and
stopped a taxi. “Enjoy this, babe!” He smiled down at her. “I’m
really excited. And I’m looking forward to meet Brian and Delta again.”
He smiled and held her hand the entire journey until the taxi stopped in front
of a fancy hotel.
“Mike!” Delta yelled and hugged the couple. “I’m so
happy that you’re finally here.”
Brian stood in the doorway and stared at . And she couldn’t break
his glance.
“, you have to see my dress!” Delta grabbed her hand and went
inside. Mike followed them.
“Isn’t it beautiful?” Delta’s eyes sparkled proudly.
“Oh, it is, hun!” said and looked at the photo on the board.
“You like that one?” nodded. “That’s me and Brian
in LA. It was such a nice journey.”
Mike and Delta had a lot to talk about and wasn’t interested in
it. So she went outside of the hotel.
Her thoughts went back to Brian. His hair was longer now. And she really liked
his beard.
“Fancy a cigarette, girlie?” It was Brian sitting on a bench behind
a hedge.
“Yep.” She sat down next to him.
“God, I know it’s wrong… But hold me! Just one last time!”
He said and put his hand on her back to pull her into his warm embrace. It felt
so wrong and right at the same time. Brian sensed her confusion and held her
even closer.
“I’ve missed you, tiger.” She whispered into his ear.
They kissed one last time before she left him alone. “I can’t do
this. Ya know?”
All the guests were in the chapel already when and Michael arrived.
Delta had planned that they should sit next to Brian’s friends. She didn’t
want to explain to everyone that she met them in LA and invited them to her
wedding after the first meeting. She decided to tell everyone that Michael and
were old friends of Brian. That was way easier for her.
Brian stood in front of the altar when Delta came in. The music started to play
and all the people in the church applauded.
“Isn’t she the most beautiful bride ever?” The woman next
to asked.
“Yeah, she is.” She looked at Brian. And to her surprise he looked
back at her. Delta was too busy with herself. She didn’t notice Brian’s
attempts to not look at his fiancée.
The ceremony went on and the priest talked more than half an hour.
“Is there anyone who has a good reason why these two people shouldn’t
marry?”
All the people were quiet.
“So this is it then…” The priest continued.
“STOP!” yelled. Her eyes were full of tears. “I’ve
got a reason!”
“!” Delta looked puzzled and gave her a I-wanna-kill-you-look.
“No, Delta! I’ve got a very good reason!” got up and
continued. “Delta, you’re a wonderful woman. But… he doesn’t
love you!”
“WHAT?” Delta folded her arms and looked at Brian. But he was quiet.
“Can’t you see that he’s not the man that you need? He isn’t
the bleached blond guy you build. He isn’t the always smiling man you
made. And he isn’t the happy lad you want to marry.” After finishing
her speech ran. It wasn’t important in which direction she ran.
She just wanted to run away.
“!” It was Brian calling for her.
“! Wait, please!”
She stopped but she couldn’t look him in the eyes.
“Hey, girlie. Don’t cry! I’m here for you.”
“I’m so sorry! I destroyed your beautiful wedding and Delta will
never talk to you again. I’m sorry!” She said sobbing.
“You saved my life today, girlie.” Brian put a finger under her
chin to lift it up. “Look at me, ! If you had not been there I would
have married her. But now… I’m happy. Yeah… just happy to
be here with you.”
“But…”
He gently kissed her lips and held her close to his body. “I love you!”
“Really? I mean: What about Delta? And what about Michael?” She
looked him into his deep blue eyes and tears started rolling down her cheeks.
“They’re not important anymore!” He kissed her again.
“Oh, we are important, Brian McFadden! Who do you think you are? Destroying
’s life just for an affair? I always knew that you’re a jerk.
But I really liked Delta. And she really doesn’t deserve this!”
Michael pulled his wife away from Brian and held her hand behind his back. She
couldn’t escape his grip even though she tried to.
“Michael, I’m sorry for everything that has happened. But I do love
her. And I’m pretty sure that she loves me back. Let her go, man!”
“NEVER!” Michael yelled and ran into Brian’s direction to
punch him.
“You are the jerk here, Michael!” ran to Brian and helped
him up again. “I can’t believe what you just did! Are you really
the man I fell in love with years ago? No, I don’t think so! You’re
never there for me when I need you. Everything you need is business and a lot
of whores! Don’t you think that I didn’t notice it. I was just hoping
that it was a phase.”
Michael looked to the ground and pounded.
“Brian, I do love you!” said and grabbed his hands. “Why
don’t we get away? Out of this town…” She sang and pulled
him into the next taxi.
Epilogue
It was a rainy day in November. Brian stood in his living room in Dublin. The
raindrops hit the window from time to time.
“Why are you this serious, tiger?” asked wrapping her arms
round his waist from behind.
“I just thought of our first meeting three years ago.”
“Oh babe. I was feeling so horny…” She whispered. “And
by the way: I like your new style, Brian. I love it when your hair has its natural
colour. And I love the strands falling in your face.”
“And what else do you like?” He smirked while ever turning around
to face her.
“I like your beard.” She smiled and gave him a cigarette. “Since
the day at the chapel you’ve lost weight. Another thing I adore.”
“Well girlie, you wanna know what I like?” He kissed her passionately.
“What is it?”
“I like to think of the night in the club when we had sex behind the sofa.
Wanna repeat that, girlie?”
