Prologue
‘, over here! ! , look at my camera! , please!’
The shouts that sounded when the foursome exited the long black limousine were
deafening but it seemed as if they didn’t even hear them. Four pairs of
sunglasses were firmly set on their faces as they made it trough the crowd of
photographers. The flashes were bright and the screaming only subsided when,
as if they were one, the men turned and smiled towards the camera’s pointed
at them. The moment was only short and soon they continued their way inside.
‘Madness.’ one of the blonde muttered as they reached the safety
of the movie theatre they were headed to, ‘I’d take back the good
old times any day.’
Fields of green, shielded by a large wood were what saw when he wandered
around his property. He smiled proudly at it knowing it was his to do with as
he pleased. Only moments earlier his father had announced his retirement and
with it declaring his oldest son Lord. Lord , a title he had respected
when his father carried it and now embraced himself. He felt honoured to follow
his father in his footsteps and knew he’d do anything in his power to
become a better Lord than his father even if it was a hard job to manage. He
was told often enough he had everything it took; a strong will, good health
and a wonderful Lady by his side. He truly believed in his abilities and knew
others joined him in that belief, which made him even stronger.
‘, wait up, mate!’
Disturbed looked up to find himself being followed by one of his best friends,
. He shielded himself from the sun shining down upon them and only took
away his hand when he reached and the shade the trees provided, ‘You
were deep in thought, I’ve been calling out for you for five minutes already.’
laughed and shrugged, ‘A lot’s going on and I needed to clear
my head. Sorry for not hearing you.’
clapped his shoulder amicable, ‘No worries, I know the feeling.’
himself had experienced what was now experiencing only two years prior
and knew what must be going on in his friend's head. ‘When is the official
announcement?’
‘Two days from now, my father wants to get it over with as soon as possible.
You know my mother has poor health, he wants to take her to Spain before winter
falls.’
grinned, ‘That’s not the real reason all this is going so rapidly
though, is it?’
As a blush crept on 's face joined with a wicked grin, knew he had guessed
the right reasons. ‘I already figured she had a healthy glow over her.
When is she due?’
‘In five months. Father wants me to get settled while is still
able to support me. She’ll be busy with other things once our little one
is born.’
‘Congratulations. It’s going to be an exciting time for you then.’
nodded and had difficulties keeping up his posture, he felt giddy and wanted
to jump around but felt he couldn’t now he was about to become Lord .
Yet he knew once his friend was out of sight he’d do his happy dance,
there were just too many good things going on not to.
‘A baby on the way?’
‘Yes, Master. It’s due in five months.’ the spoke kneeling
down to his Master's feet. ‘In two days his father will give up his title
to him, I think that would be the perfect time.’
‘I think you are right, good work, young man.’ With a little gesture
he let know he was allowed to stand back up. Quickly he stood with two
others that hid themselves in the shadows of the dark wall. ‘You all know
what this means, don’t you?’
‘With all the respect, Master,’ A man stepped forward
and also kneeled before continuing to speak, ‘I think might
be a tougher case. I don’t think we should acknowledge him before the
ceremony. I’ve seen him with his wife and I don’t think he’s
willing to give that up, especially with a baby on the way.’
The man before him started pounding a large stick on the ground deep in thought
before he aimed his gaze downwards.
‘You don’t think he’d come to us willingly, ? Even if
he knows what we have to offer?’
A shaking head was his answer and he grunted angrily. He was used to getting
his way, no matter what it took. He always got what he wanted and
was high on his list. It would make his foursome complete and stronger than
ever.
‘I need him, I’ll have him.’
stepped back forward with a scared look in his eyes, ‘What about
the risks of taking an unwilling man?’
The man rose to his feet and spread his arms wide to take on an impressive form.
‘It’s a risk we’ll have to take.’ were the last words
he spoke before he disappeared into nowhere.
Stroking ’s tummy gently, again lost himself deep in thoughts.
This time not only did he picture himself as Lord , he had a little boy
in his arms and rocked it to sleep. Softly he started humming a lullaby until
he felt his wife turn in his arms.
´You are the best thing that happened to me, you know that?’ she
whispered to him before pressing a soft kiss to his lips. He smiled at her and
pulled her even closer to him.
When he met her, only a year ago, he instantly knew she would be the woman standing
next to him when he’d say I do. And she was right there when he did half
a year later. He loved her deeply and didn’t think he could live without
her ever again. Feeling such love overwhelm him, he pressed his lips against
hers, only this time tighter. He let his tongue seek out hers and moaned when
she gave him access to her mouth. Slowly he let his hands start to wander over
her body making short work of the layers of clothes that covered her within
only minutes.
‘I love you so much, . Don’t ever leave me.’ he murmured
before letting himself go in the passion that she made him feel.
As opened the door he heard the music swell and saw all faces turn to
him and . He grabbed her hand tightly and squeezed it before pulling
her with him towards the crowd. As soon as they entered the hall, people around
them started to applaud and he nodded his thanks with a smile on his lips.
‘There’re so many people!’ exclaimed next to him in
awe and she held on to him a bit tighter.
‘They are all here to see us, sweetheart. Can you believe it?’
‘All here to see you.’ she corrected him knowing full well everyone
came to see the new Lord. ‘I’m so proud of you, !’ She
looked to her side and saw him beam at her words and knew they meant more to
him than the hundredth of people that came to see him today. It made her stand
a little stronger and she let her eyes go over the crowd. She was glad to see
some familiar faces when she looked in the back of the hall, seeing ,
and there. They were always nice to her when she met them before and she
saw wink at her from a distance. It made her feel more comfortable right
away.
led her to a nicely decorated table that stood in the centre of the hall.
As they reached it, he pulled out a chair for her and helped her sit down. After
a gently kiss on her hand he sat down as well and immediately got occupied by
all the people that wanted something of him.
That was how the night went on. was busy receiving congratulations and
advice from anyone that mattered in their circle whilst the women came to
to discuss her good choice for a husband and how she adapted in the castle.
Every now and then took the opportunity to turn himself towards
and kiss her softly.
‘I can’t wait to get you on my own later.’ he whispered on
one occasion as the night was far underway. smiled but shook her head,
‘I think someone might disagree with your naughty plans, Lord .’
she reacted patting her stomach mildly. ‘I’m afraid once my head
touches a pillow I’m out for the count.’
put his hand over hers and leaned in to kiss her cheek tenderly. When he
felt someone poke his back he quickly shot back up and looked around to see
three of his grinning friends behind him.
‘Nice party, mate.’ commented, ‘You’ve grown quite
popular over night.’
‘It does help when you suddenly have a huge estate that’s all yours.’
reacted and let go of to shake hands with the three of them.
‘And a nice property indeed. We were wondering if you were up to a late
night. We’re going hunting later and it would be nice if you joined us.’
proposed slightly nervous. didn’t notice as he shot a quick
look out the window to see a full moon.
‘It’s nice and bright outside.’ His eyes wandered to ,
remembering her words only moments before and saw her nod shortly in approval.
‘A great evening for a deer hunt, I’ll join you.’
‘Great, we’re meeting at the stables a quarter to midnight.’
nodded and saw the men leave before he turned back to . ‘Are
you sure you don’t mind?’ he asked her and she smiled at him.
‘Of course not. As I said, I’ll be asleep as soon as I see my bed.’
Again he kissed her and stood next to his chair.
‘Let me escort you up, I’ve had enough of this party anyway.’
he told her. Guest around them already started to leave and he’d like
to spend a few moments alone with his wife before he went away with his friends.
‘Do you think things will be different from now?’ Back in the safety
of their bedroom felt insecurity take over. He rubbed his thumb gently
over ’s palm till she pulled him close to her body.
‘Things will definitely be different. You have quite some new responsibilities
and there’re even more on the way.’
reached to touch her belly and kissed her softly. ‘But things won’t
be different between us, right?’ he seeked confirmation. ‘I love
you so much, I couldn’t stand us drifting apart.’
‘Why would we? I’ll always be by your side. I love you.’
answered and kissed her hard to ease his mind. He knew he didn’t
have to doubt her love but sometimes needed her to speak her feelings to set
his worrying mind at ease. Gently he led her to the large four poster bed that
stood in the centre of the room and lifted her on it. As he did, he quickly
crawled next to her not once breaking the kiss.
‘I think I rather stayed with you tonight.’ he whispered in her
ear. Her finger traced his strong jaw line and she yawned, ‘You should
go with the lads, you’ll have fun.’
‘Watching you sleep is also fun, you look cute asleep.’
‘You watch me sleep?’ giggled, ‘You’re insane,
you should sleep when I do.’
pushed a strand of hair out of her face and smiled, ‘Why?’
‘Coz else you’ll be tired in the morning.’
‘All worth it, love.’ laughed and kissed her again. But before
he could deepen the kiss, pushed him off of her. ‘You should go,
they’re waiting for you.’
Full of resentment got up and stared at his wife one last time, ‘Sleep
tight.’ He blew her a kiss, ‘I love you.’
When he stepped outside his eyes were drawn to the full moon that stood high
in the sky. Its light lit the forest as if dawn had just set in. Yet the clock
only neared midnight, he was late already. Quickly he stepped forward and as
he reached the stables he saw pace around impatiently. ‘!’
he called out as he caught sight of him and as reached the threesome he
got patted on the back by them.
‘That was about time, mate.’
He saw the horses all ready for their hunt. ‘Sorry guys,’ he apologised,
quickly raising himself on his favourite horse, ‘I had to get
safely to our room. But I’m all ready now.’
The others followed his moves and also got on a horse. ‘Let’s get
this hunt started.’ laughed. His tongue slid over his teeth in a
quick move and then he spurred his horse towards the woods.
Four man and their horses shot trough the night towards the woods. As they
neared it, they slowed down to a gentle pace.
‘I wonder if we’ll find any deer.’ said rubbing his hands
together and then stretching out. The short ride on the horse had done him good
after the long evening sitting inside and he felt fully awake again. He grabbed
the reins tightly and steered his horse after 's. and followed
him closely and all men were silent, listening for any noises that would announce
the present of an animal to shoot. It didn’t take long till heard
a branch break. The moon was full and in its light he saw the movement between
the trees. Slowly he leaned back and reached for his bow and arrow but all he
felt were the empty saddle bags.
‘Lads!’ he announced laughing, ‘You could’ve told me
you hadn’t packed up my things yet, now I have to get back.’ He
let his horse hold still and waited for a response. When it didn’t come
he looked back and fro to see his three friends surrounding him silently. ‘Is
there something wrong?’
‘I’m sorry, mate.’ said and looked at him questioning,
‘What’s going on here?’ he enquired but there didn’t
come a reply. A chill went down his spine as and closed in on him.
He was so intent on watching them that he didn’t see the figure appearing
from behind the trees. His horse did though and the impressive form making the
sudden movement had it prance. Not being alert tumbled down and while he
landed flat on his back on the ground his horse galloped away. For a few moments
was out of conscience. When he blinked his eyes open the figure that had
emerged stood over him. A dark cloak hung around his body and over his face,
shielding it. blinked a few times, sure that what he saw was an effect
of the nasty fall. But no matter how often he blinked, the figure wouldn’t
go away, it only leaned in closer.
‘Well done.’ it hissed hoarsely and a shiver went down 's spine.
He tried to crawl up but found he was being held down. Looking up he saw
holding his arms. He instantly knew it must be and holding his legs.
He tried to kick them loose but it was no use.
‘What are you doing to me? What do you want?’ His voice sounded
scared and that was exactly what he was. He thought his friends to be trusted
but apparently they weren’t. What if they were after his life? What if
he never saw again? He panicked and yelled loudly again, ‘Let
go of me!’
It was no use. Instead of letting him go, they held on tighter while the man
above him pulled away his cloak, showing his face to . A sinister smile
appeared, making even more scared then he already was. ‘There’s
no use in screaming, you won’t be heard by anyone.’ the man told
him in a creaky voice. His eyes went all over him and he nodded satisfied, ‘Perfect.’
‘What do you want of me?’ yelled again and the man above him
began to laugh. A set of fangs showed clearly as the moonlight bounced of off
them. Staring at them in disbelief blinked again. As he did, the man’s
mouth was closed and he began to doubt his own mind. This couldn’t be
happening, he’d heard of vampirism but those stories weren’t real.
They couldn’t be real.
‘He is.’ hissed above him as he read the disbelief in 's
eyes. ‘And so will you be in a few moments.’ When searched
for his eyes he saw them reduced to small slits. He grinned shortly and again
saw a pair of fangs. ‘You’ll join us.’
‘NEVER!’ Again tried to wrestle himself free but it didn’t
do him any good. The others made sure he kept being firmly pressed to the ground.
‘I think it’s time.’ The tall man standing over him got down
on his knees next to 's body. He slid his tongue past his fangs and then
leaned in for his final attack.
felt the blood being sucked from his body and the life flew out of him.
He almost reached the state of unconsciousness again when suddenly the image
of standing in front of him entered his mind. He saw her rub her tummy
and she smiled her heart-warming smile at him. A sudden strength came over him
and he growled loudly. Then he kicked his legs hard and at the same time pulled
his arms to his own body. Whether the men holding him down hadn’t been
paying enough attention or maybe s’ strength had just overpowered
them, either way he freed himself from their grip.
‘Master!’ screamed loudly. He saw rise in a quick move,
taking the man above with him. His head flew back in his neck and blood pearled
on the fangs that were now clearly visible.
‘Noooo!’ he drawled out, unable to reach his prey. He tried fighting
back but had the upper hand. He swung the man of his body against the nearest
tree with such a force he surprised the men watching. himself wasn’t
even aware of his sudden strength, all he saw was the fact this man was trying
to separate him from his lover. And he just wouldn’t let that happen.
He stepped closer to his attacker but saw how he sagged against the tree lifelessly.
That made all anger flew out of him. His eyes stayed focused on the man but
he stopped walking towards him.
‘Master?’ did run closer as he as well saw his Master hang
against the tree, all life seemingly left his body. When he stood next to him
his eyes shot to , ‘You killed him!’
The words sounded harsh and fell to his knees as realisation dawned on
him, ‘He tried to kill me.’ he whispered more to himself than to
anyone else. hurried to his side while walked up to . The latter
inspected the branch that pierced right trough the body, right trough his Master's
heart.
‘He tried to kill me.’ came 's whisper again but shook his
head. ‘He tried to turn you, make you one of us.’
‘, our baby. I need to see her.’ In one swift move was
up but kept him standing on the same spot by placing a hand on his shoulder.
He had to know whether his assumptions were right.
‘You can’t see her, she can’t see you.’ As turned
to look at him he instantly knew his Master had succeeded even if it had killed
him doing so. He pulled with him towards a near lake and waited till the
moon shone trough the clouds again. As the water lit up in its light, he forced
to lean towards it. The reflection showed exactly what had happened to
him. ‘You are one of us now.’
‘That was so cheesy! Why did we even sit it out?’ enquired
as he and his mates left the hall where the movie Twilight had just showed.
He smiled largely when he discovered a camera taking his picture and then quickly
turned his back towards the photographer. Earlier in the day it had seemed a
brilliant plan to go see a vampire-movie but now that he actually saw it he
regretted spending his time that way.
‘Wasn’t it bloody enough for your liking?’ slapped his
back playfully and then headed towards the bar, the others following him closely.
‘Nowhere near. I mean, that Robert Pattinson guy is a nice enough chap
but did you see the way his eyes were bend when he turned? It was just too fake.
And what’s with all that paleness, you’d say they were bloody ghosts
if you didn’t know any better!’
‘Don’t get your knickers in a twist.’ grinned at ’s
outburst, ‘You wouldn’t want it to be too realistic, else we could
as well make a documentary.’
‘We’ve made plenty of those, haven’t we?’ chipped
in dryly, ‘Ah, good. Andrew’s working, I’m thirsty.’
He signalled the man behind the bar for their usual beverages and turned back
towards the others. ‘What time were we supposed to be at the studio again
tomorrow?’
‘Around twelve-ish. Anyone up for a late night tonight.’ asked,
sipping on the bright red liquid in his glass, ‘Club Esquire maybe? I’m
up for a young birdie tonight.’
shrugged and twirled his glass between his fingers, ‘I’m not
really up to anything, I think I’d rather head to the hotel.’ He
knew studied him carefully and made sure not to look in his direction.
It didn’t stop him for enquiring further,
‘Don’t you think you should try and shove those feelings aside?’
‘Feelings!’ snorted almost spilling his drink, ‘For
fucks sake, you’re not on about THAT again are ya? It’s been over
500 years!’
‘511 to be precise,’ nodded, ‘and 364 days. It’s
her date of death tomorrow, isn’t it?’
ignored ’s gagging sounds and nodded at , ‘It’s
the only feeling I have left.’ he said, the comment mainly meant for ,
‘Thank God I’ve not turned completely insensitive as some of us.’
rolled his eyes. It wasn’t as if they hadn’t had this same
conversation before. Back in the days had been even more sensitive about
it, the years had hardened him. But still every year around this date the matter
came up, making 's mood dark and sombre. He now knew better than to provoke
too much. wasn’t one not to speak his mind but he and
were bound to each other as their Master had wanted. They couldn’t be
apart for too long, they relied on each other, so fighting constantly was the
last thing on their minds. They’d done it for the first fifty years ’d
become one of them, before they realised it made their lives living hell.
‘Only that meeting at the studio, right? The rest of the day we have off?’
asked and nodded.
‘Good, I’ll see you guys tomorrow then.’ emptied his
glass and after a short wave left them to enjoy their evening.
When entered his apartment for the night the first thing he did was kicking
of his shoes. He stretched out and snapped his teeth together. Then he headed
towards the fridge and got out a sachet filled with blood. After filling a glass
with the liquid he let his body fall into a leather couch that dominated the
room. His tired feet landed on the small table in front of him and he closed
his eyes. It only took a moment before she filled his thoughts. He’d been
able to get rid of the constant memory of her as it killed him to think about
the past. It was meant to be impossible, have feelings when you were as he was,
a vampire. That was why he usually didn’t speak about them. The only ones
that knew were the ones that stood close to him. , and . They
had known her and also knew how much he’d loved her. But they didn’t
understand the love he still felt. The love and the guilt. Guilt for not being
there to save her, for not taking her to his world when he still could. All
though, it wasn’t as his world was all that cracked up as it seemed to
be. He always had to be careful not to get caught, he always had to control
his urges when it came to drinking blood. And then there was the impossibility
to drink yourself to oblivion, the alcohol had no effect on him whatsoever.
When he felt miserable about her not being there, there was no way to forget
about it. She had died and he hadn’t been there for her when she did.
It was two months after he was turned. The first few weeks had been hell, every
night he felt the call for blood and had to get out on a hunt. had been
right by his side all the time and taught him about his new life. The risks,
the necessities. He learned about how to get blood without having to kill, he
found out how to control his urges and hide his fangs. It was a new lifestyle
which he had to adapt to and that wasn’t easy. He often felt lifeless
and all that kept him going was the thought of being in ’s arms.
told him it was unlikely to ever have feelings of love or hate again but
he felt as strong for her as before if not stronger.
‘Please, hold me tonight.’ she had begged him the night that had
changed his life even more as the night he got turned. He had gotten into the
bed with her and held her close. That’s how she had fallen asleep and
only then had he pulled away. For a moment he had stared at her neck longingly
and he knew he had to get out. He couldn’t do it to her, couldn’t
bring her to his world no matter how he loved her. It was a living hell.
Quickly he had pulled away and went out. There was no need to sleep, no tiredness
took over his body. Only the call for blood and he had to alleviate it.
When he had neared the castle later in the night he saw lights flicker trough
the window frames. His heart had skipped a beat and he hurried back knowing
instantly something was wrong. As he reached the gate to the castle his mother
stood there waiting for him. She avoided eye contact but blocked his path none
the way.
‘What’s wrong? Why are you standing here? Is it dad?’ he’d
asked worriedly and his mother had shaken her head.
‘No, son, you’d better sit down.’ She pointed him in the direction
of a wooden bench but he didn’t sit down on it. Instead he looked at his
mother urging her to tell him what was wrong. The longer he stood there the
more he was convinced it was something to do with .
‘It’s .’ his mum then announced and he willed her to
speak faster, ‘She went into labour, it was too early.’
‘No.’ he whispered his eyes going wide, ‘Did she lose our
baby? Where is she now?’ he enquired.
‘, it’s not just the baby. The bleeding wouldn’t stop,
… she died.’ Her last words were almost inaudible as her
voice died away. Yet heard them as were they screamed in his direction.
He dropped to his knees and let his upper body fall down on the ground wrapping
his arms around his head. His scream could be heard far from the castle as his
misery found a way out. He had lost the love of his life and he had no idea
how he had to go on.
‘Seriously, it was the weirdest dream ever. When I woke I felt like it
truly happened to me. If I close my eyes I can still feel the pain.’
smirked at her assistant, ‘I hope I’ll get spared such pain,
god that must be awful!’ She clutched a large pack of files to her chest
and pushed open a door with her shoulder. ‘Both physically and mentally.
Have you thought about bringing those CD’s?’ easily switched
onto business mode as they entered the building. nodded, ‘Of course,
I also brought you the one Stevie sent but I haven’t listened to it yet
so it might not be very interesting.’ She pushed open another door holding
it open for so she would be ahead again.
‘We’ll see, let’s get those others out of the way first.’
commented and smiled sideward as they neared the boot she knew her clients
would be in.
hung lazily in a chair, notepad on his knee and a pencil between his teeth.
Softly he hummed the words he’d just written down as a melody came to
him. It was a good way to kill some time while waiting for the producer to arrive
and get his mind off of the past that kept hunting him still. He sighed deeply
and let himself slide more downwards in the chair.
‘Think it’s getting somewhere?’ asked setting himself
next to him on another chair and shrugged as answer. He’d rather
lost himself in thoughts instead of talking to and his friend seemed to
take the hint coz he kept silent. Again read the words he’d written
down until suddenly he perked up. It couldn’t be! He closed his eyes and
lay his head to his neck to carefully inhale. There it was again. shot
a searching look at him, ‘What’s up, mate?’
shook his head, it couldn’t be. But just as he was about to sit back
another wave of the same scent came to him. Sweet and flourish, throwing him
back in time a couple of centuries. He stood up to take in the aroma fully.
‘Everything ok?’ tried again and this time spoke his
mind, ‘It can’t be, I must be going insane.’
The three men that joined him in the recording boot now all sniffed the air.
‘Smells good.’ acknowledged as a whiff of scents came to him,
‘Who’s got with her today?’
Again shook his head as if to get rid of the thoughts occupying his mind,
‘It’s just as if I smell…’
Before he could finish his sentence the door got thrown open exposing the producer
they were working with, . She greeted them with a beaming smile, ‘Morning,
lads. Meet…’
‘.’ finished his sentence gob smacked as stepped
aside and her companion appeared. There, in the doorway at the recording studio,
stood the love of his life. He hadn’t seen her in over 500 years but there
was no doubt about it. This was the girl that he married decades ago, the woman
that gave birth to his child too early for both of them to survive. The only
one that could still make his heart beat even if being a vampire that was supposedly
impossible. His world span as his eyes met hers and time became a stand still.
‘.’ he whispered.
‘Have you two already met?’ vaguely heard her boss’
voice ask as she found herself drowning in the eyes that found hers as
soon as the door had opened. She was fairly sure she’d never met this
man before yet he spoke her name before she was introduced. She couldn’t
look away from his eyes, they held her captive and she wasn’t sure she
minded it too much. Somehow it made her feel safe, protected and warm inside.
It amazed her how a complete stranger managed to make her insides quiver with
just one look. Unable to look away she stepped forward without taking notice
of the wires that lay across the floor. Therefore she tripped and lost balance.
With a short, high scream she headed towards the floor only to end up in the
arms of a stranger, moments before. The next moment another man joined her saviour,
snatching her out of his arms and setting her back upon her feet. Her rescuer
was being snarled at by the man that had made her lose balance in the first
place. She looked from one to the other curiously not sure what her entrance
had caused. Then her eyes drifted towards , who looked even more curious.
‘You could’ve told me you already met before.’ she said as
soon as she noticed looking at her. shook her head,
‘We didn’t, I don’t think I ever seen them before in my life.’
‘We never met anyways.’ chipped in leading away the attention
from his band mates by reaching out his hand towards . ‘ ,
one of this crazy bunch that’s called Westlife. Over there you find
, the only sane one, apart from me, in this band. The one that saved you
from an encounter with the floor is and the next to
him would be .’ he introduced the lot with pointing in the
right directions. took her time to study her surroundings while her
heartbeat set back to a calmer rhythm. Again she got glued to a set of
eyes when she let hers go round the room as was once again staring at her.
But this time she managed to rip her eyes away from his, his earlier behaviour
towards making her feel unsure about his intentions.
‘Nice to meet you all, I’m .’ she said and set her
bag on a table before settling down in a chair. The tension in the room was
tangible as a silence fell. She wasn’t sure which way to look, all eyes
seemingly pointed at her. It made her feel uncomfortable and wanting to run
from the room as fast as she could. She was on the verge of getting up again
when broke the silence, much to her relief, and started rambling about work
they had to do. She sank deeper in the chair she sat on and busied herself with
paperwork, trying to make herself invisible for anyone to see and keeping her
eyes from drifting to .
‘What the hell were you thinking?’ As soon as the meeting ended,
cornered for an explanation of his behaviour earlier.
‘That would be telling.’ replied pushing away and continued
his walk trough the long hallway that led outside the large building. ‘But
if you insist on knowing…’ He pushed a large door open before walking
on.
‘I already know.’ hissed making laugh out loud. ‘Then
why would you want me to tell again?’
‘You nearly bit her, you bastard!’ He clearly recalled entering
the recording booth. At first he had been mesmerised by her smell and looking
her in the eyes threw him back in time. It was as if all those years never happened,
as if they just vanished into thin air. All that separated them was the space
of a few yards between them. He wanted to close that distance and take her in
his arms. But then she tripped and it was that shot towards her. His fangs
had only shown briefly but they’d been there nonetheless even if he was
sure anyone human never would have seen. He knew what it had meant.
‘You’ll never go near her again, you hear me.’ he threatened
but seemed unaffected by that fact. He opened the last door that separated
them from the fresh air outside and pushed his sunglasses over his eyes firmly.
‘Or else what? You don’t have a claim on her, mate, if I want a nice
little bite, I’ll take a nice little bite. Don’t worry, she won’t
notice, I’ll be gentle with her. Can’t wait to see her adoring little
face staring up at me.’
Once bitten there were three options. The first was one the four of them all
decided against once they realised they actually had options, death of the victim.
Second came a risk only ever dared to take, turning the victim into a
vampire themselves. Risky coz the chance on not surviving the turning bite was
large. Besides, they weren’t interested in enlarging their coven, five
vampires weren’t easy to keep a secret and a secret their origin had to
be. They could not risk anyone turning against them, something that was most
likely to happen if anyone found out about the truth.
Yet, if in control, there was a way to bite, suck some of the blood a human
had in them and still let them live. It was a matter of control coz once feeding
it was hard to stop. But with the age came self-control and they were all easily
capable of it these days except for ’s wife, who had been turned
only a century before. The victim would survive but there would be an unbreakable
bond between the biter and bitten. During a concert it would be easy to tell
which of the fans had been fed off and by who. Neither of the options wanted
for , not caused by . Fury overcame him and he pushed against
the wall roughly. The building shook for a short moment as it came into contact
with the hard bodies of both vampires. ‘You’ll stay away.’
he hissed. He held ’s shoulders a bit tighter against the wall and
lifted him slightly of the ground. That was a wrong move to make coz now ’s
legs were free to give a kick to his shins. With a painful grimace let
go of him and immediately took advantage of the moment, pinning against
the wall.
‘She ain’t YOUR beloved , mate. She’s been dead for
centuries, you have to come to terms with that. You don’t know this girl
even if she looks hell of a lot like your love and you have no right to keep
me off like this.’
‘She IS mine.’ growled low in his throat while his eyes shot
daggers at , ‘You keep away from her or you have me to answer to.’
He pushed off just as the door next to them swung open, revealing ,
and the two women they were in a meeting with only moments before. Both
of them waved shortly and after a short goodbye left the four men standing in
the streets staring after them.
‘Mine.’ whispered again and without saying another word he
stalked after her.
‘What was that all about?’ enquired as followed .
shrugged and walked in the opposite direction the others had left. ‘You
and were fighting, I could hear you.’
‘Then why ask what it was about? You probably heard the entire conversation.’
said , knowing the hearing of his friend was better than human hearing.
had to pace fast to keep up with his long strides, was obviously
in a hurry to get away.
‘I’m just trying to find out if that was really what I thought it
was about. thinks he found back his , doesn’t he?’
Again shrugged making sigh deeply, ‘Come on, mate, don’t
be like this. I’m just trying to make some sense out of it all.’
‘I think he does, but this ain’t his girl. That’s impossible,
she’s dead. And even if she hadn’t died being in labour, she wouldn’t
survive over 500 years.’
‘But that’s not what this really is about, is it?’ prodded
on. He knew well enough to know there was more on his mind as he’d
also been the one had confided in all those years ago. Therefore he wasn’t
surprised that when turned to face him, a determined look lay in his eyes,
‘I’m not holding back again, I’ve done it once I won’t
let the opportunity slip past me again.’ he spoke out loud and shuddered
foreseeing the horror that would come from this.
‘You can’t go and talk to her just like that.’ whispered
as soon as he caught up with , ‘What will you tell her?’
His words made slow down and look up from his constant stare, ‘I
can’t just let her walk away, .’ he said uncertain, ‘What
if I never come across her again, I can’t lose her a second time!’
‘She ain’t the same girl, you have to realise that, . Look at
her, the way she dresses, the way she talks. This girl knows nothing about your
past, knows nothing of your origin. What would it look like if you just marched
up to her and told her she’s your wife and you ain’t letting go
of her again?’ He gave a a moment to comprehend and set the facts
straight.
‘Then what? You smelled it as well, you’ve seen her face. You can’t
tell me she ain’t the same girl, how can she not be the same girl?’
He was feeling more desperate every second that passed and every step she took
away from him. It felt like loosing the love of his life all over again, he
wasn’t sure he could handle that.
‘She died, .’
shook his head, he knew was right but that didn’t make it any
clearer. It felt like in only two hours his life had flipped upside down and
he wasn’t sure how to handle it.
‘Give it time, mate. Let her walk away now, you can always get in touch
with her trough . But please, give it time.’
‘Horrible.’ sighed watching her reflection in the large
mirror in front of her. The bags under her eyes showed the lack of sleep and
her skin was white as a sheet. She reached out for her make up and while applying
a thick layer to disguise the dark beneath her eyes she thought back on the
dreams that had kept her awake half the night. A smile crept on her lips as
images of filled her head, ever since she first met him earlier in the
week he’d been on her mind. It was a bit strange, somehow he felt familiar
to her although she was pretty sure she’d never met him before. She’d
seen him on TV and in magazines of course, there was no denying Westlife, but
surely she’d never seen him for real. That was, till three days ago. She
could still clearly picture his clear eyes staring at her from a distance.
His stare hadn’t felt uncomfortable but nonetheless she’d felt nervous.
As enough make-up covered her face she continued with brushing her hair into
a simple ponytail and after one last look in the mirror turned to find some
loose fitting clothes. She didn’t have to get into work today as it was
a Saturday and she’d planned on doing some shopping as she needed a present
for her mother’s birthday. It would keep her mind occupied enough so she
wouldn’t spend the entire day thinking about her dreams and .
After dressing in a pair of jeans and a sweater she slung her purse over her
shoulder and checked if her wallet was still in it. Then she grabbed her keys
and headed out.
flexed his muscles and shook them loose, all the while keeping his eyes
fixed on the apartment building across the street. The last couple of days he
felt being drawn here and the pull hadn’t been something he could resist.
Finding out where she lived had been fairly easy, the phonebook provided three
possible addresses and the impeccable sense of smell he got with becoming a
vampire all those decades ago helped him decide which address was hers. He’d
seen her leave and return a couple of times but so far lacked the confidence
to strike up conversation. 's warning kept playing in his mind every time
he felt the urge to step to her.
With restless movements he played with the phone in his hands to keep them from
hanging lifeless beside him. It was a Saturday so she wouldn’t be out
for work. He hoped to catch a glimpse of her anyway, it would get him trough
the day.
A sudden chirping sound startled him and ripped him from his thoughts. Quickly
he lifted his phone to his ear and answered the call, ‘.’
As 's voice sounded and started rattling he leaned against the building he
was stood next to. For a moment he closed his eyes, only to snap them open quick
after.
‘…should’ve been here already, what’s keeping you? Not
on another stalking trip, are ya?’
was the only one to know he’d been at ’s apartment regularly
as he’d needed someone to confide in. Yet this wasn’t one of the
times he felt like confiding.
‘No, I was looking for a new pair of sunglasses actually, I broke my Gucci’s
this morning.’ He let his fingers slide over the glasses that hung loosely
on his shirt and already regretted the excuse, they were his favourite pair
and now he couldn’t wear them anymore, ‘I’ll be in soon.’
‘Good, have you spoken to yet?’ Without waiting for an answer
continued speaking and took his sunglasses, pushing them firmly on
his face for the last time before he had to get rid of them and stepped into
the sunlight. Quickly he crossed the street, swarming round a couple of cars
that stood parked. As he touched the sidewalk he stepped up humming in his phone
a couple of times when 's story required a reaction. He was so engrossed
in hurrying towards the hotel he knew his band-mates waiting he wasn’t
paying attention to his surroundings. That was why he bumped straight into someone
stepping onto the pavement coming out of one of the buildings. He huffed as
their bodies collided and then the smell hit him. He snapped his phone closed
without acknowledging and stood frozen for a moment. Then he turned to
apologize and as soon as his eyes locked with hers a rush of excitement rushed
trough his body.
‘.’
His shock was mirrored in her eyes and for a moment he didn’t know what
to say or do. He had to control the urge to take her in his arms and pull her
close. Give it time, mate. Give it time… She ain’t the same girl.
‘.’ she then spoke up, her voice not at all steady. A spark
of hope lit up inside of and he smiled gently,
‘Fancy seeing you here, enjoying your weekend?’ He had to strike
up conversation, he couldn’t let this chance slip past. As a small blush
crept up her cheeks he felt more confident and he watched her nod.
‘I’m on my way to do some shopping, you?’
He was about to answer her question when a loud beeping disturbed their conversation.
She digged a small phone out of her purse with an apologetic look,
‘Sorry.’ As she quickly read the message that came in she giggled
and shook her head, ‘It’s , she keeps trying to talk me in to
going out with her tonight.’ Without replying she threw the phone back.
‘You’re not going then?’ he enquired slightly disappointed.
When was going out, was usually near which meant a perfect excuse
for him to be at the same club as she was, a legit opportunity to be near her.
‘I dunno, I’ve never been out with before but she seems the
kind of girl that flirts with like every guy present which would leave me standing
pretty much alone and I don’t really fancy a night on the town by myself.’
She looked up scared at the confession, ‘I shouldn’t have said that,
don’t tell her I’ve told you that.’
laughed at her obvious distress and honesty, ‘She hasn’t told
you then?’
‘Told me what?’ It was obvious had no idea what he was talking
about and laughed again shaking his head,
‘Don’t worry about flirting, she’s in a steady relationship,
has been for years actually.’
‘Oh.’
Quick to explain himself further continued, ‘With , one of my
band-mates? You’ve met him this week.’
‘ and him are together?!’ exclaimed surprised and
nodded. ‘So you should just go out with her, you’ll have fun.’
he encouraged, hoping that she’d go now. Before she could answer though,
his phone started ringing. As he brought it up he saw 's name flash over
the screen. ‘Crap!’
He looked at again and sighed deeply, ‘I really need to get going.’
he told her sorrowful, ‘I’m late for this meeting already, sorry.’
After an understanding nod and some parting greetings they both went there own
ways, with a spring in his step knowing he’d have another chance
on talking to her that night. He’d make sure of that!
She was here, he knew the moment she stepped into the club where he already
had been for an hour. The air was filled with hundreds of different scents but
hers stood out from all the rest. He let his eyes go round the crowded club
and didn’t take long to seek her out in the masses. He swallowed hard
as he saw her form and willed himself to keep standing. She was clad in a tight
black skirt that came halfway up her thighs. As he let his eyes glide down her
legs he found a pair of knee length leather boots and he smiled appreciatively.
Then his eyes found their way up to examine her upper body. A cropped top,
matching the colour of her eyes, made the outfit complete. Her hair hung loose
and framed her face nicely.
‘What’s up?’ asked, pushing him forward as came
to a sudden standstill and he only nodded in the direction he’d seen her.
It made his friend grin. ‘And you aren’t even on a stalking trip.
Looks like and her are here together.’
‘They are, ’s been bugging her to come clubbing all day.’
His words had stare at him dumb folded, ‘How would you know?’
shrugged but couldn’t help the smile on his lips grow wider, ‘She
told me.’ Without giving the opportunity to keep up his interrogation
he started walking away.
‘What are you going to do?’ his friend yelled and while keeping
up his pace he turned to answer, ‘Talk to her, of course.’
‘I put my phone on mute before I came over.’
looked over her shoulder as she heard a deep voice behind her and smiled
as she found stood there. It only took a moment for her to take in his
large form, sharply dressed in a dark pair of jeans topped of with a white shirt.
The top buttons were left open, providing a nice view of his chest and she had
to shake herself out of the moment of revelling in his beauty. She reached in
her purse and found her own mobile. With a few punches she shut it off and showed
the blank screen to the man stood in front of her, ‘We were like a mobile
community this afternoon, weren’t we?’
‘You didn’t tell me you met this afternoon.’ chipped
in, breaking the bubble that was forming quickly around the two of them. As
saw her, he greeted her with a kiss on the cheek before explaining, ‘We
ran into each other when I was on my way to a meeting.’
raised her eyebrows for a short moment, ‘What a coincidence.’
The movement had been invisible to the human eye but noticed, knowing full
well suspected more that a coincidence. Yet he choose to ignore her imply,
‘Aren’t you desperate to see ? You haven’t seen him all
day.’ he snided back. Had there still been blood running trough her veins,
he knew she would’ve blushed to the roots of her hair. Now she only shot
a look of daggers at .
‘Yeah, ,’ Unaware of the tension between and ,
joined their conversation. ‘Rumour had you and him are in a relationship.
We’re working together for three months now and you never told me that!’
‘Rumour or ?’ looked from one to the other and saw them
share a smile. ‘.’ she concluded and turned to face ,
‘We’re keeping it low profile, I’d rather not be in the limelight
so I don’t speak about it.’
‘And no kissing in public or holding hands either.’ filled
in teasingly and shoved him hard,
‘You know I love him, there’s no need to display my affections to
the world as long as he knows. Besides, it keeps his fan base high.’
laughed out loud and winked at her. As she smiled back he knew they were
still okay despite the teasing, ‘Go see him, you know you want to.’
‘You sure it’s what I want?’ shot back and looked at .
As she nodded encouraging she left the two of them to it.
‘You shouldn’t have brought her tonight.’
pulled closer against his body and moved in time to the music. He
heard her giggle and as he followed her line of vision he saw surrounded
by , and . ‘Or maybe I shouldn’t have brought them.’
sighed deeply and pressed his lips against her neck for a short moment
enjoying the feel of her cold skin before she quickly pulled back.
It hadn’t been long before was stood in front of the door earlier
in the week, demanding an explanation for what had been going on at the recording
studio. She too had noticed the tension which wasn’t a surprise. She was
always the first to know when there was something going on between the four
of them. It was like she had a sixth sense for it. Or maybe it was just the
fact she’d been in their lives for almost a century now. When he’d
met her in the early 1900’s he had instantly known she was the woman to
be by his side and a longing had come over him to make her join their coven.
A longing he hadn’t been able to resist for long.
They kept their relationship under guards, not wanting to end up in the gossips.
It wouldn’t matter much now but they might get in trouble for it in the
future. Already it was a risk as it was with everything Westlife achieved over
the years. Vampires don’t age and fifty years from now they would all
still look the same. Far away from Ireland, plans for that were already made.
refused to set in the same limelight, she should be able to live without
any worries for the future. So they pretended only to have a working relationship
with being one of the main producers they worked with.
‘Nothing good can come from it.’ said simply making laugh
out loud.
‘Why not? Everything turned out just fine for both of us, right? I’m
sure ’ll find a way to make it work with this girl if he really wants
to.’
let his eyes wander over and his band-mates again and saw 's
constant stare. It was obvious there was an instant connection between the two
of them, there was no doubting that. Yet he wasn’t convinced everything
would turn out ok, somehow he knew things were about to go wrong and he wasn’t
sure how to stop it.
Cold blooded, cold hearted. You will never feel love or hate again, that’s
how a vampire’s life is led. It was what he was told but it couldn’t
be entirely true, how else could he explain the pulling in his chest when her
face came into mind. How could the strong desire to be near her be explained?
The longing to bite, to make her part of his world for all eternity.
He recalled the feelings that rushed trough him when he smelled her earlier.
And then she stepped in the same room and he couldn’t tear his eyes away
from her. He had to touch her, feel her. Feel her warmth, the gushing of her
blood, the beating of her heart. All the things he could no longer feel within
his own body, the things he missed even after all those years. And yet he wanted
to deprive her from those things only to have her by his side for the rest of
his existence. That was something that wasn’t uncommon, he knew as much.
It were the exact same things had told him about when he met for the
first time, now almost a century ago. He hadn’t known what to do until
one day he could no longer control himself. He’d bitten her and she’d
turned. They hadn’t parted since, it was like a marriage for eternity,
exactly what he wanted. It was all well, being with the coven of four their
Master originally created but he couldn’t see why there wouldn’t
be more possibilities for him as there were for . He would make her his,
it just had to be done.
It should’ve been done decades ago but he’d let the opportunity
slip. The only regret he had in all those years. How could he possibly make
the same mistake again?
The sudden ringing of his phone chirped trough the dark night, ripping him
from his thoughts and before it could attract any attention he took the call.
‘What?’
‘Where did you suddenly disappear to, mate?’ ’s voice
sounded and he sighed somewhat annoyed. Couldn’t he just have a moment
to himself? What was it about being part of a coven of vampires everyone always
wanted to know what you were up to?
‘I just had enough.’ he replied and ducked deep in his coat slowing
down his pace. The reply on the other end of the line made clear he wasn’t
heard and he repeated himself.
‘Why are you whispering?’
He sighed again, ‘Just because, what does it matter to you?’
‘!’ exclaimed and he pushed the phone tighter against
his ear to drown the noise. It seemed as if ’s voice carried all
the way down the almost abandoned street, ‘You’re not up to what
I think you’re up to, are ya?’
‘Depends.’ He let his eyes wander down the street, dimly lit by
a couple of streetlights and started walking again albeit not as fast as before,
‘What do you think I’m up to?’
‘She ain’t yours to play with, .’ As spoke the
noises in the background faded and instantly knew he had left the club.
‘You need to leave them alone.’
‘She doesn’t belong to anybody, she’s just like any other
human we ever came across.’
As he heard mutter he knew he wasn’t buying his story. But it didn’t
matter, he didn’t need ’s consent to go on with what he was
planning. It wasn’t like asked their permission when he made
his, he just did and then dealt with it. That was exactly what he had in mind
himself, the others had no choice but to accept.
‘Where are you now?’
‘Somewhere out in town.’ he answered vaguely even when he knew
wouldn’t be pleased with the answer. ‘Look, I gotta go now.’
‘Don’t hang up!’
The angry tone in ’s voice made stop from cutting the call
and come to standstill. ‘You’re not biting her, you hear me.’
‘Who died and made you king?’ Sarcasm dripped from his voice and
he heard inhale heavily on the other side of the line.
‘Fine, then do whatever pleases you. But if it ruins our coven, you’re
the one responsible and I’m not gonna be the one helping you solve the
mess that will come from it.’ Before could respond the line went
dead and he sighed deeply, he knew things would get messy, didn’t
have to tell him that. Looking in front of him he saw ’s slender
form and as he caught her scent he knew it didn’t matter what mess came
from it, it all would be worth it.
‘He could do nothing but run, really. It was hilarious!’
looked to his side as ’s tinkling laugh filled the night.
The longer he spent with her, the more comfortable he felt around her and he
knew it was the same for her. While during their meeting earlier in the day
she had been a bit uncomfortable she was now laughing freely and sharing stories
as he was with her. He couldn’t help but think it felt just like the old
times. But then 's words would hit him again, telling him she wasn’t
the same girl. He had to keep telling himself that in order to keep himself
from becoming too comfortable with her. There was nothing more he wanted than
to wrap his arms around her and hold her close, kiss her till they were running
out of breath. To take her to his apartment and lay with her in his arms till
the sun came up. He wanted to make love to this woman, the woman he never stopped
loving. There were just so many similarities to the girl he loved in the fifteenth
century.
As she slowed down he got ripped out of his thoughts. ‘Thanks for walking
me home, .’ she said and he turned to look at her. Her mascara was
a bit smudged after the long night, making her that more adorable and he had
to swallow hard,
‘Sure thing, I’ve had a lovely evening.’
A tangible silence kept them both frozen in their spots, neither of them wanting
to break the evening, not willing to part even though they both knew they should.
Long seconds ticked away making nervous. He didn’t want to leave
her standing here but he also knew he couldn’t rush things, realising
she couldn’t possibly feel the attraction and love he felt. Yet he couldn’t
control the urge to touch her one last time so he reached out and brushed his
fingers over her hand. ‘Good night, .’ he whispered and looked
up to find her stare. He swallowed again and scrunched his other hand in a tight
fist in an attempt of control. Trying so hard to keep in control he didn’t
notice stepping closer until she almost had the gap between them closed.
As realisation hit him, so did her lips. Gently she pressed them up against
his and he felt her insecurity as she kept them there for only a short moment.
Then she pulled back, leaving him to stand breathless.
‘Goodnight.’ came her whisper and before he could move she had turned
and entered the apartment building she lived in. A smile crept on his face and
his hands relaxed from their tightened grip. She kissed him, a true and loving
kiss. Suddenly his existence seemed bright as could be and with a spring in
his step he skipped away into the night, not aware of the damage that was done
with that simple kiss…
stared up at the large apartment building and hissed when he saw a single
window light up only minutes after left. It had to be her place, there
was no doubt about that, at this hour of the night who else would put on their
lights. He let his eyes fall and stared in the direction his mate wandered off
in, would he really have left? It would’ve made more sense if he had just
hung around but maybe craved for some blood? He focussed on the sounds
that were to be heard but the night was silent except for a couple of cars passing
and a cat wandering around. Softly he let out a sigh and looked back up. Behind
the now closed curtains he knew . who just kissed , she was
slowly losing her heart to his friend and he didn’t like it one bit.
It was as if history was repeating itself.
He had met her before even did, he still clearly remembered the night he
was invited to a party for her father's 40th birthday. She was a seventeen year
old virgin and he would’ve been a good seventy years old hadn’t
he been turned a vampire at the age of 28. All night long he had longed to get
close to her, to feel her skin and taste her blood but had been with him
and noticed the longing. Dozens of warnings he had send out and knew deep
down he was right. This young girl should have the chance to live life before
he was there to take the beating of her heart away from her. He promised
he’d give her five more years before he followed his longings and he kept
his promise no matter how hard it had been. She met and they got married.
Even then didn’t worry too much, it was all part of the life he
wished for her before she’d take his side. That was, until their master
declared was the last one to join the coven and make the strongest foursome
their world ever knew. It was then the doubts set in, when would turn a
vampire he would never accept making his.
Months of indecision followed until there was no chance left, she died in labour
along with the child and she created. It had been hell to go trough and
he never wanted to go trough such hell again.
The pull to get closer to her had gotten stronger when memories of the past
seeped trough him and he shot one last look around before he raced to her balcony
over the fire-escape. His steps were inaudible to the human ear so he didn’t
have to fear her or any of the neighbours hearing him. Carefully he leaned over
to the small gap between the curtains and peeked trough them. The room he saw
was empty except for the furniture and some decorations. He took his time to
look around and let his eyes land on a couple of pictures that hung on the wall.
Most of them featured her and what he presumed were friends and family. A smile
crept on his lips staring at them and for a moment he was unfocused. That’s
why he gasped fairly loud when suddenly came into view. Unaware of being
stared at, she stepped into her living room only wearing a pair of boy shorts
and a tank top. felt himself frozen on the spot as she sat down on the
couch, leaned back her head and stretched her long, naked legs in front of her
on the coffee table. Frozen on the spot until suddenly he got pushed aside roughly
while a loud snarl sounded.
‘Fuck off!’
As soon as he heard the voice, knew hadn’t left after all.
He tried to grab the railing of the balcony to steady himself but before he
could, pushed him hard again and he toppled over it, falling three floors
down on the pavement. With a quick jump followed him and then rolled them
both to the side of the building. ‘Shut up!’ warned as
was about to start a rant and they both heard the rustling of curtains moving
above them.
‘Smart move, loser.’ snarled as the curtains hung back and
they were safe out of ’s sight, ‘Do you want to expose yourself
that desperately?’
‘Sure, hanging out at her balcony in the middle of the night is way cleverer.’
came 's response while he kept tightly pinned to the ground, ‘What
the hell were you doing there, ?’
At his question, ’s eyes began to shine, ‘Enjoying the view.’
He’d better not said that coz it earned him a hard punch to the eye. For
a moment lay still, overwhelmed but then he wrestled himself free from
s touch.
‘What is it that makes you think you have a claim on her?’
's eyes closed to slits and his teeth came into view, ‘What makes you
think you have?’
didn’t respond to it but simply turned away, arguing with he
would never win he knew that much. was hung up on the girl and it would
be hard for him when he found out made her his. But it was going to happen
anyway, he would not continue his life without her. Not again.
‘If you want her that much, mate, do something about it. Coz I’m
not going to wait around till you made up your mind.’
‘I’m going to do it.’
tore his view from the movie he was watching to stare at in doubt.
A determined look lay on his friend's face, different from the look that had
pained him when had first arrived at ’s apartment two hours prior.
He had tried to find out what bugged his mate for weeks already but wouldn’t
tell. Now he’d obviously changed his mind.
‘You’re going to do what?’
‘There’s no other way, I have to do it.’
Raising his eyebrows, kept his look at who stared straight ahead.
There was a short silence before turned, his gleaming eyes looking at ,
‘Right?’
‘Mate, had I any clue what you’re talking about I might be able
to answer your question.’ The determination in 's face did give him
a clue what he was on about but he wanted to hear it from himself. It was
as if hadn’t spoken at all when continued his monologue, ‘If
I don’t do it, will. And when he does, he will have a hold over
her, I won’t stand a chance.’
Seeing his presumption confirmed shrugged, ‘But there’s always
a chance she won’t survive, assuming you want to turn her a vampire.’
That put a silence between them again while pondered the idea, ‘So
you’re saying I shouldn’t?’
‘What makes you think will try to turn her anyway?’ asked,
avoiding the answer. It was the right question to ask coz suddenly spilled
everything that had been bugging him for weeks. The way he felt a strong pull
to , meeting outside her apartment building several times, the
things said and how he had been keeping watch on for almost two
months now. sat and listened to all his worries and thoughts and let them
swirl trough his mind.
‘I think you should ask her, only do something with her consent. Just
leave her the choice.’ he then advised, ‘Let her decide whether
or not you’re worth the risk.’
A deep sigh escaped as he looked away from again. ‘What if she
decides she doesn’t want it? I can’t just let her know the truth
about us, it ain’t fair on you guys.’
shrugged, ‘I think you should take the risk, I’m sure
and will agree. Well, maybe not so much but you don’t have
to tell him until it’s already done, right?’
A small smile crept on s lips, ‘Thanks, mate.’ He got up from
the couch, ‘Feel free to hang around, I’m off.’ also
smiled as he waved off and then continued watching his movie.
‘See you tomorrow!’ waved at before she turned and
started her short walk home. A long day of work lay behind her and the tiredness
took over her body the further she walked from the office. She yawned and then
shook her head to get rid of the tired feeling. If only she could have a good
long sleep but lately her nights were more spend thinking about than sleeping.
She smiled at the thought of the handsome man she met two months before, she
had fallen for him that much was clear. They had been dating, he took her out
on several occasions but somehow he seemed to keep his distance. A few kisses
they had shared but he wouldn’t come up to her apartment. Yet deep inside
she knew he felt as attracted to her as she did to him, she could see it in
his eyes. Something was up though, she just couldn’t put her finger on
it. As a thought occurred to her, a smile appeared on her lips. She digged her
phone out of her purse and started typing in a message. But before she could
press the send-button a hand on her shoulder prevented her from doing it.
‘I already thought it was you, .’
As she recognized the person behind her let the breath she’d been
holding escape, ‘, you scared me!’
chuckled softly and shook his head, ‘Sorry, I didn’t mean
to. Where are you heading?’ He fell into pace with her stepping down the
pavement.
‘Home, I just finished work.’ explained looking up at the
next to her. The first time they met had been awkward but after that
he always was nice to her. Not that she met him too often, only a few times
at the office and when going out in town with , but often enough to know
he was a friendly guy. ‘What about you?’
shrugged as answer, ‘I was just wandering around really, getting
some fresh air.’ A short silence fell till he filled it, ‘So, how’ve
you been?’
looked up at him, not sure whether or not had told him about them
dating. He seemed genuinely interested in her when their eyes met and she held
his gaze for a moment. Then she looked back forward to avoid walking against
a lamppost, ‘Good, actually. Nothing special really.’
‘Nothing special, ey? I thought you were dating my band-mate?’ As
looked at again she saw a cheeky glint in his eyes and she laughed
at it, ‘Right, that’s pretty special I guess.’
‘I would think so. Or don’t you like dating him?’ he enquired.
nodded her head fiercely, ‘I do, I love dating him.’ Then
she stopped in her track suddenly and turned to look at , ‘Or did
he tell you he actually doesn’t want to date me?’ She kept her eyes
at him suspiciously until began to laugh,
‘The opposite more like.’ he admitted, ‘He talks about you
all the time.’
felt her cheeks heat up from the blush that was forming and started
walking again. She couldn’t help but feel full of joy at ’s
words as they took away all of the doubts she had.
He gritted his teeth at the full smile that appeared at his words. He couldn’t
lie in front of her so when she asked if didn’t like dating her he
had to tell her his mate loved it. It was after all the truth, was crazy
about the girl. And he knew exactly why, he was just as crazy about her himself.
But he couldn’t show his feelings, he had to keep up appearance. With
a spring in her step she moved on and he stared at her neck longingly, how he
wanted to make her his just this moment. But he could hardly do so out on the
busy street. He stepped aside to let a man pass and then hurried to keep up
with .
‘I was just about to text him.’ she admitted as he walked next to
her again and he smiled at her as she continued, ‘I was going to ask him
to have dinner with me at my place.’
Dinner at her place… The image that sprang to mind was vivid, her sitting
at the couch in the tiny shorts he’d seen before. Him sitting next to
her, leaning over and kissing her lips, down her chin until he reached the soft,
delicate skin of her neck. The feel of her pulsing blood as it ran trough her
veins and him stopping that by sinking his teeth deeply into her. A growl escaped
and he quickly covered it up by coughing.
‘That’s a nasty cough you have.’ commented and he
got pulled back to reality. Them walking down the streets, cars passing by and
people rushing past them. No, not walking. Without noticing they’d come
to a standstill.
‘I think I’m coming up with a bit of a cold.’ he excused himself
staring up at the building they stood in front and realising it was where she
lived.
‘Best take it easy then, you can’t risk losing your voice with
the album promo coming up and all.’ She pointed at the large revolving
doors behind her, ‘My place.’
‘Right.’ nodded, ‘Well, it was nice running into you.
Have a lovely evening.’ Her smile made it hard to keep his distance but
he managed to stay in place.
‘Thanks.’ she said, ‘You too. An early night might help with
that cold of yours.’
‘I’ll give it a try.’ He winked cheekily and raised his hand
in a short wave, ‘See ya around.’ he said before he turned and quickly
walked away. His hearing he kept focussed on the sound of her heels clapping
against the floor until the sound faded and he stopped. Slowly he turned and
stared up at the building she’d disappeared in. Without any hesitation
he walked back, determined to make her his once and for all…
Already on my way! X
jumped around childishly excited as she read the reply she’d just
gotten. ’s words encouraged her even more to invite over for
dinner. Tonight she’d figure out exactly where this relationship was heading,
she was determined about that. After dropping her phone onto the coffee-table
she skipped to her bedroom to change her outfit and do something about the mess
that was her hair. As she noisily removed half of the content of her closet
she missed the noises coming from the other side of her apartment as someone
entered it.
‘Fuck!’ Noisily tripped over a pair of shoes and barely kept
his balance. Quickly he looked around the hallway of ’s apartment
and stood stock-still for a moment. Nothing, hadn’t heard him.
He sniffed the air but wasn’t sure which door would lead him to her. Her
smell was everywhere and made him slightly dizzy of want. He wanted her, he
needed her, right this moment. He swallowed the poison leaking from his fangs
and opened the first door. It led to the living-room he’d stared at from
the balcony. Quickly scanning the room, he found it empty and dared to walk
in. He stroke his fingers down the wall with the pictures and ended up next
to the couch. Again his fantasy sprang to mind and slowly he sank down onto
it, closing his eyes. A loud beeping noise made him return to the present time
and he stared down at the table where her phone lit up. Then the thumping of
her feet made him aware of where exactly he was sat and he jumped up from the
couch. The handle of the door was being pushed down as she’d obviously
heard her phone and was now on her way to it. But before the door opened another
noise sounded, this time higher and even louder. The doorbel. The handle that
was previously being pushed down, came up again and he heard her voice answering
the intercom. As she stopped talking an all too familiar voice sounded.
!
‘Fuck, no!’ he whispered to himself and quickly scanned the room.
It were only a couple of steps to the door that led to the balcony and he reached
it within a second. The next he had the door open and was out of the living
room. Down the balcony he could hear ’s footsteps entering the apartment-building
and with one quick move, was over the railing and onto the pavement. The
speed it all had happened with was unnoticeable to the human eye, which was
a good thing as the flow of people passing her apartment was busy. He threw
one look back up and saw the curtains flowing out of the balcony door, making
him realise he’d forgotten to close it. It didn’t matter now, he
had to make sure to get away from there. Only that thought in mind, he quickly
paced away.
. The smell was obvious, he’d been there only moments before.
scrunched his eyes to slits and looked around. There was no sign of his mate
now but he’d been there only moments before. took a few steps from
left to right and noticed the smell passing. He probably had only passed the
building. A relieved sigh escaped him and he pushed the buzzer of ’s
apartment. It took her only seconds to answer and the sound of her voice made
him smile. Tonight he would tell her about everything and hopefully she’d
decide to spend her life with him. She had to, he wanted her with him for all
eternity.
‘Can I come up?’ he asked trough the intercom and she giggled.
‘You’re way too early, I’m not even properly dressed yet.’
she answered but then the door buzzed open for him, ‘But come in.’
As he stepped inside the building he smelled it again, . He hadn’t
just passed, he’d been inside. Angrily made his way up, all the while
sniffing the air for the familiar scent. It was everywhere, had been here
only moments before. The smell led him straight to ’s apartment
and he knocked her door. She opened it immediately. As she came into view, ’s
scent was forgotten for a moment. All he wanted was to pull her in his arms
and keep her close for all eternity. He leaned in and placed a gentle kiss on
her cheek, ‘You look beautiful.’
And she did. She’d told him she wasn’t dressed properly trough the
intercom but now she stood in front of him clad in a light blue summer dress
that flowed freely down her legs. Her feet were bare, her toes painted a light
pink colour. Her hair was pulled up in a messy bun and some strands framed her
face. With one finger he stroke them behind her ear and stole another kiss.
An adorable giggle escaped from her and he smiled.
‘Come in. I hope you’re not too hungry, I haven’t even started
on dinner yet.’
stepped past her and quickly scanned the hallway. There was nothing to
be seen. He tried to keep his attention at , not wanting her suspicious
about his actions.
‘Take your time, maybe I can give you a hand?’ he offered while
he was being ushered into the living room. As he looked around he saw the curtains
flow gently on the wind that blew trough the open door to the balcony. ,
who walked in behind him, shivered from the cold that came with it, ‘I
thought I’d closed that door.’
Instantly felt himself relax, knowing must have left trough it. As
stepped past him, he stopped her though,
‘Let me.’ He quickly made his way over to the opened door and threw
a look outside. ’s scent was still there to be smelled albeit only
slightly. The balcony itself was empty and firmly shot the door and locked
it securely even though he knew wouldn’t be stopped by locks. As
he turned back to face he noticed the questioning look in her eyes.
‘So, what are you making for dinner?’ he tried to distract her.
For a moment she hesitated but then started telling him about her plans for
dinner yet knew he’d have to come out with the truth soon.
Staring up at the now lit windowsill, chewed on the inside of his cheek. would have to leave sooner or later and then he’d be here and she’d be his, of that he was sure.
‘And what if wouldn’t have hired you, what would you’ve
done then?’
let out a high-pitched laugh and grabbed another plate to plunge it
into the bubbles of the dishwater.
‘I’d probably be doing the job we’re currently doing in some
crappy restaurant to pay the bills.’
‘You are rather good at doing the dishes.’ teased taking the
plate from her hand and starting to dry it, ‘But then again, you’d
probably wouldn’t be half as good if you didn’t have me here to
help ya.’
‘Oh!’ Insulted by his comment, splashed some of the water
in 's direction. He was quick to jump away but still some of it made it to
his shirt.
‘That’s my best shirt!’ he said staring at the wet patch.
’s laugh made him look back up and before she could get away he
grabbed her round the waist with one arm and used his other hand to splash water
all over her. She wriggled in his hold to get away, her giggles coming out uncontrollably.
‘Let go of me!’ she yelled in between them making him pull her even
closer to his body.
‘I need an apology first.’ His other hand he used to lift her up
off the ground and holding her in his arms now he leaned her closer to the dishwater,
‘Or do I need to dip you in?’
‘Nooo, please!’ she laughed, ‘Let go, I’m sorry!’
A smile appeared on s lips and gently he let her down to her feet. His eyes
got a hold on hers and suddenly her giggles died out. The need to press his
lips to hers got suddenly overwhelming and he leaned closer. Apparently she
felt the same need as him coz her hands came up to his neck in an instant and
then they kissed. This kiss wasn’t like any of the other kisses they’d
shared before. It was needier, fiercer and it seemed as if the world started
spinning out of control.
‘…’ His voice came out in a husky whisper in between
the kisses as he lifted her onto the kitchen counter and forced his way in between
her legs to get closer to her.
‘I want you, .’
He swallowed hard and kissed her again while his hand disappeared underneath
the hem of her dress. Then she pushed him away with force and slightly disorientated
he stepped back. She slid down the counter and let her hand slip in his. With
an inviting smile upon her lips she backed out of the kitchen, pulling him with
her.
‘I’ve a better place for us to do these things.’ she whispered
mischievously and as soon as she stepped into another room and a large bed came
into view, could no longer hold back. He lifted her up in his arms again
and lay the both of them down onto the bed. Then he gave into temptation, taking
them both to a heaven of their own, unaware of the trouble that was yet to come...
Feeling the gentle strokes up and down her back, snuggled down in to
the hard body beside her. That’s when she finally realized she wasn’t
in the bed alone. She peeked trough her eyelashes and when she recognized the
person beside her all that happened came back to her. A smile grew on her lips
and she threw her arm around .
‘You awake?’ his whisper sounded trough the dark night.
‘I’m not sure, it feels like I’m still dreaming.’
confessed cheesily and at his laughter her heart expanded. She wanted their
relationship up to another level and it finally seemed to be happening. In the
silence that fell cuddled even closer to and his arms wrapped around
her.
‘I like this.’ The words slipped from her tongue unintended but
as he kept stroking her back steadily she felt the confidence to speak on. ‘I
really like you, . Do you think this could happen more often?’
As his strokes stopped momentarily she held her breath, inwardly cursing herself
for speaking up and not letting things be as they were. Then he rolled her over
and she came to lie atop of him. His stare was intense and she was instantly
reassured again.
‘I’d want nothing more.’ he told and kissed her lightly on
the lips, ‘But there’s something you have to know about me.’
felt her heart starting to thump awaiting his confession, she knew all
of this was too good to be true. All this time they’d been dating she’d
known there was something up.
‘You’re already in a relationship.’ she stated, pushing herself
up from his naked chest. Before she could get away, his arms locked around her,
‘No, I’m not.’ He sighed deeply and his eyes held a troubled
look, ‘This isn’t easy, will you promise me you’ll listen
to everything I have to say?’
She only nodded, provoking a deep sigh from him. One hand came up, taking hers
and he entwined their fingers. Then he pressed her hand against his chest, ‘I’m
not what you think I am.’
kept silent as she saw the struggle in him, knowing whatever he had
to say didn’t come easy to him.
‘We’ve met before, . Not in this lifetime, well not in this
lifetime for you anyway.’
couldn’t contain laughter but the pained look gave her made
her stop. ‘We met and I immediately knew you were the one for me. Half
a year later we were married.’ His words sounded surreal and for a moment
doubted 's state of mind. But the firm hold and sincerity in his
eyes made she let him talk on,
‘Not much later you were expecting my baby, we were so happy. And then
I learned the truth about , and . They turned me.’ His
moment of silence gave her the opportunity to reply,
‘Turned you?’
He pressed her hand harder to his chest, ‘Can you feel the beat of my
heart?’
At his words, she concentrated on it and felt a faint, slow yet steady beating.
As she did, he pressed her hand up against her own chest where her own heart
thumped hard and way faster, ‘I’m not human.’
Her body went rigid in his arms, ‘Not human?’
Again she doubted his state of mind, his heart might beat way to slow to keep
him alive but he seemed so convinced himself.
‘No.’ He slid his upper lip up in half a smile, revealing a set
of sharp fangs. This time was quick enough to push herself out of his
embrace and she shot to the foot of the bed wrapping the sheets firmly around
her. came up and his eyes revealed hurt, ‘I’m not going to
harm you.’
‘What are you?’
‘I think you already know, it might not look the same as in the movies
but the resemblance is clear enough I think.’
‘A vampire.’
nodded and reached out to touch her leg. She quickly pulled it towards
her, ‘Don’t touch me.’
pulled his hand back and sighed, ‘I won’t harm you, I love
you. I’ve never stopped loving you.’
‘I don’t know who you think I am but I’m fairly sure I’m
not that person. I’ve never been pregnant and I never married you either.’
scooted even further away from , keeping a safe distance.
‘Yeah… no… I know that. The woman I married, she died.’
Quickly stood up from the bed and shuffled to the door, keeping her
eyes on him at all time. He made no attempt to get up, only held his eyes on
her, ‘When I look at you, you’re exactly the same. A girl of this
time though and with your own history, but you look the same, you smell the
same, you talk the same… When we were making love it was as if I was thrown
years back in time. We were meant to meet again, I need you in my life.’
‘How?’
looked at her in question but she was quick to explain herself,
‘How did she die? What did you do to her?’
shook his head, ‘It wasn’t what I did, it’s what I failed
to do. I should’ve turned you… her.’
‘How did she die?’ asked again her patience growing thin.
As 's answer came she wasn’t surprised, ‘She died giving birth
to our baby. Both of them died, I’ve lost both of them.’
The livid dream she had had the night before first meeting came back to
mind, it had made such an impact, she’d never forgotten about it. She’d
looked upon the desperation of a man losing both his true love and baby and
it broke her heart.
‘I want to turn you, . I don’t ever want to lose you again.’
His voice was desperate as was the look in his eyes and she put her hand on
the door handle, pushing it open.
‘I want you out, . Away from me, get out of my house.’ The desperation
in his eyes was scaring her and there was no doubt in her mind about the things
he’d said before being true.
‘, please.’ he pleaded but her mind was made up. ‘Out,
now!’
moved quick, so quick almost missed him passing by. He sniggered
at his mate’s bowed head and speed, ‘Not your lucky night then,
matey?’ he mumbled under his breath, making sure he wasn’t heard.
As was out of sight he looked back up at the dimly lit apartment he’d
been staring at all evening and back at where had disappeared, ‘All
the more luck for me then.’
He didn’t hesitate for a moment but moved away from the alley he’d
been hiding. Within seconds he was up the fire-escape and back onto her balcony
ready to take what failed to over and over again…
Dazed stared at the door had left trough only minutes before.
When she’d told him to get away from her, he’d gotten up, dressed
himself and left. Just like that. The look in his eyes had frightened her, she’d
been afraid he would hurt her but he’d done exactly what she told him.
Leave. Now a rush of guilt had taken a hold on her. In her fright she’d
wanted to be away from him but now she wanted him by her side. To talk, to figure
out the exact truth.
She let herself fall down onto her bed and wrapped herself in the sheets that
still had his smell on them and the tears started to fall.
Frustrated with the happenings of the past hour she was unaware of the door
to her bedroom opening. Neither did she notice someone entering, not until the
bed sunk under the weight positioning itself on the edge. She froze and turned
in an instant,
‘? What the hell are you doing here?’ All too aware of her naked
state she wrapped the sheets even closer around herself. A lazy smile lay on
his lips and she wasn’t sure whether she should or shouldn’t fear
him. Her eyes went up and down his body looking for clues, ‘How did you
come in?’ she continued as he didn’t speak up. Still an answer didn’t
come, ‘What do you want?’ Now fear did kick in, making her voice
tremble.
‘Did you and had a fight?’ He sounded as was it every day he
sat at her bed and she rolled away from him.
‘No.’ she lied, ‘What are you doing here, ?’
The serene smile seriously started to creep her out now and as his upper lip
lifted in the smile and a set of sharp fangs appeared she knew she was in trouble.
‘Take a guess.’
‘Get away from me, . I’m not interested in becoming a freakin’
vampire, I already told !’
let out a loud laughter, ‘Classic. Leave it to to ask for your
consent. I tell you, he seriously is an experiment gone bad.’ He stepped
closer and she slid off the bed. Unlike , didn’t stay seated
but immediately blocked the doorway.
‘So, you weren’t interested in an eternity spend with him then?
No wonder he flee earlier.’
‘I’m not interested in spending an eternity with anyone.’
snapped, ‘So get away, now!’
Again laughed, ‘Sorry, sweetheart, but I am interested in spending
an eternity with you.’ Nonchalantly he leaned his back against the door,
‘Did tell you about his late wife?’
At ’s nod he continued, ‘I wanted to make her mine but
talked me out of it. Biggest mistake of my life, I’m not making it again.’
‘You all seem to mistake me for someone that lived ages ago. I’m
not her, I wasn’t born until 1983!’
stepped forward towards her but still kept her only way out blocked, ‘True
as that might be, you’re just as gorgeous and just as wonderful so it
doesn’t really matter.’
As spoke jumped upon the bed and off again at the other side.
Before she could take a sprint towards the door though, was right in front
of her, blocking her way again and grabbing her wrist in his hand.
‘And now what?’ she asked, her voice shaking.
‘You’ll become a vampire, I’m going to turn you.’
stared straight at him, ‘It won’t make a difference, you
can turn me into a vampire but it won’t mean I spend my eternity with
you. Why would I?’
‘Coz that’s how it works, sweetheart.’ Not one time lay there
a troubled look in his eyes, he was fully confident she’d be his and this
made ’s confidence crumble. Especially when he continued, ‘Everyone
I’ve ever bitten to feed on, worships me. Everyone has ever bitten,
worships him. That bond becomes inseparable when you’re turned into a
vampire. Why else do you think , and I have been together since
we’ve been turned?’ With this last piece of information he had
beaten. She knew there was no way out, was determined to go on with whatever
he had in mind and she knew well enough she wouldn’t be strong enough
to fend him off. His hold on her wrist was iron.
‘Does know you’re here?’ she made one last attempt.
smirked,
‘If he knew I’d be a dead man… vampire. He wants you all to
himself.’ His words had her heart expand as she realised the meaning behind
them. wanted what was doing currently but stopped when she made clear
she didn’t want anything to do with it. That fact made her realize the
love he spoke about was true.
‘If you think what you’re doing is the right thing to do, go ahead
and do it. I know I can’t fight you. But do realize that I’ll do
anything in my power not to surrender once I am what you want me to be. I’ll
never be yours.’
Her words came out strong and for one moment she thought to see hesitation in
’s eyes. But then he leaned in and sunk his teeth deep into the flesh
of her neck until he hit her vein and sucked. Slowly all her blood flowed out
her body into his mouth as he fed on her until her heart stopped beating. That
was when he replaced it for the venom he possessed in him and she hitched a
breath. As he had nothing left to give her, he carefully laid her body onto
the bed and lay next to her, holding her close in his arms and hoping he’d
done the right thing.
‘I’ve lost her again.’
As soon as opened the door uttered these words and sagged onto the
floor before him. He crouched down next to his mate and as he looked in his
eyes he saw the desperation he’d once seen before when had lost his
wife and child a long time ago. That’s why 's next words didn’t
come as a total surprise, ‘I’m done with it all. You promised, mate.’
knew he would once regret the promise he made centuries ago, back
then sure he’d never feel such a loss again.
‘Kill me, . I’ve had enough.’
‘?’
The mumble was only soft and hardly audible but had been laid waiting
for it and therefore immediately shot up when the sound was made. Carefully
he leaned over and his lips curled up in a smile as she blinked.
‘, you’re back!’ Tenderly he reached out to brush her
hair from her face but before he could touch her, she slapped his hand away
while growling loudly. leapt back and studied her from a distance. She’d
been unconscious for a couple of minutes and still didn’t seem to have
fully woken up. Her eyes were shut again, her body rigid beside him. He made
another attempt at touching her but as soon as he came too close she shook him
off wildly. Uneasily he got up from the bed and leaned against the wall, facing
her as her eyes opened again.
‘Get a – way.’ Her voice was hoarse but clear as she emphasized
the words spoken, still was convinced he didn’t hear her correctly
until she repeated herself, ‘Get away from me.’
‘, it’s me, .’ He stepped closer, leaning over
her and reaching out, ‘Just open your eyes, sweetheart.’
She did as he asked, showing two pools of hatred. Convinced she had no idea
who he was and blinded by his own fluttering feelings, he leaned closer and
pressed his lips lightly against hers. It resulted in her arms flying up to
his upper arms. Encouraged by this move, laid himself down on top of
with a soft groan, finally able to give into his longings. He swept his tongue
past her lips, begging for entrance. It wasn’t entrance he got, instead
she squeezed his upper arms in an iron lock and kicked up her knee between his
legs. As all air huffed out of him she pushed him off with an unknown force,
sending him flying against the furthest wall. She followed right after, bringing
her face close to his. ‘Don’t ever try that again!’ she hissed.
Before could contemplate what was happening her naked form retreated from
the room and not long after the front door slammed while sagged trough
his knees defeated.
‘Get up, mate!’ tried to lift from the ground and into
his apartment but all will had left , leaving it a hard task to fulfil.
Somehow got his arm around his friend and he dragged him to the living
room. Panting he fell into his couch, leaving on the ground beside him.
‘I can’t kill you, sorry.’ he announced after a long silence.
Those words were all it took to get up and he was stood before in
a wink.
‘I can’t, you can!’ he exclaimed, ‘And you will!
You’ve promised!’
shook his head, ‘I promised I would help you if you ever suffered
the same heartbreak again. You haven’t lost your wife and a child, .’
In one quick move lifted up from the couch by his collar.
‘Have you not seen her? She’s the love of my life. If we weren’t
meant together, why would she have returned to me? I took your advice, .
I’ve taken it slow, it hasn’t worked. What point is there for me
to go on if it isn’t with her?’
All did was look at and plead with his eyes to set him down, which
was exactly what did when he finished his speech.
‘I forgot one thing when I made you that promise. We can’t end our
lives ourselves, remember?’
's eyes slid to slits as he hissed, ‘Hence why you need to do it.’
he breathed out conclusively.
‘But when I kill you, I kill myself with it. It’s what our Master
said, we can’t live apart. That is what makes our bond so strong.’
A long, hard silence fell until broke it again, ‘Why won’t
you just keep on trying?’
‘You haven’t seen the look in her eyes, . There’s no use.’
sauntered to the door and threw one last look back, ‘Sorry.’
As he walked out he was determined to find some way to end his misery. The conventional
suicides were useless. What point was there to jump from a high building if
you landed on your feet easily? Sliding your wrists would only help if you had
actual blood running trough your veins and a packet of pills would just plummet
down into his stomach without doing any harm. The only ways proved unable to
perform, he couldn’t even go near a wooden stake or a silver bullet, let
alone pierce it trough his own heart. Therefore he had to find someone to do
it to him. But who would do him that honour?
The craving got too strong, she needed blood and she needed . Staring down
the street the only craving she could fulfil was the one to blood. The man passing
her threw her a flirting look as her eyes landed on him and her mind was set.
‘Are you alright, love?’ he asked and stepped closer. An
acid taste filled her mouth while her eyes slid to slits. The man's face turned
from flirty into scared as he saw her expression change and it made her feel
fulfilled. Scaring him gave her a feeling of intense power and she stepped in
closer, laying her finger on the man's lips. He backed away but didn’t
come far as a wall prevented his escape. In a viable attempt he tried to brake
free by forcing her away but ’s bite released unknown powers in .
A little hoarse laugh came from her lips as she leant closer to his neck where
the blood pulsed wildly in fear. Her lips curled up from her fangs and she placed
them on the delicate skin. She was driven by instinct as her teeth sank in and
the blood flowed freely. Thirstily she started drinking on the thick red liquid
until a piercing scream distracted her. Bewildered she turned towards the noise,
finding a frightened girl standing right behind her. Her eyes were wide and
her skin turned pale when she came into view with the sight now was.
Blood dripped down her chin from the sudden distraction and the man she’d
been feeding on sagged to the floor unconsciously. So did the girl that had
made her stop her feast, making an easy target to continue feeding on. That’s
why stepped over the girl and kneeled beside her. Gently she traced
her finger over the girl's neck and leaned closer.
‘?’
Before she could attack her name was called out and caught, she looked up. Her
eyes grew wide as she saw who was looking at her, eyes wide with shock. ‘What
are you doing here?’
‘We’ll continue recording in June to have an album out in November.’
nodded as spoke to a reporter that came towards them as soon as
they left the restaurant. ‘It was good for us to have a year off, take
some time for ourselves.’
After some quick snapshots, both men stepped into the awaiting cab and
let a loud sigh escape as the door closed behind them.
‘How can we be sure we’ll be in studios when June comes? For all
we know won’t come back at all.’
‘You’ve heard , he’ll be back.’ said simply,
having heard ’s complaint once too many. ‘Why don’t you
ring him if you’re not convinced?’
The answer to that question was one didn’t necessarily needed to
answer, had heard the answer many times already. didn’t dare
calling , when he left a year before he was clear in not wanting any contact
at all with him. He only stayed in touch with and occasionally and
he couldn’t blame him. ’s thoughts went back a year in time,
the day he had no longer been able to control himself and bitten . After
what had seemed an eternity of nothingness, had suddenly appeared beside
him in ’s apartment. He had been surprised to find there
and as soon as he lay eyes on him, knew something was wrong.
‘What are you doing here?’ he asked and could do nothing but
confess. He had turned her and she flee. Who knew what she would do, fresh vampires
were unpredictable and not in control of their cravings. Together they’d
started a hunt and meanwhile filled him in on 's loss and how he wanted
to kill himself. A flicker of guilt had shot right trough as truth started
to settle in. Had he done everything wrong?
Their hunt focussed on both and and the searched the whole city
until an hour later they found the pair in an abandoned alley. had curled
his body around , who clinked to him like a helpless child. Two innocents
lay scattered beside them.
‘, you need to get away from here.’ took lead and all
could do was stare at the intimacy between and . She should be with
him, that’s why he turned her. He wanted her by his side. But she wasn’t,
she was with . As his eyes slid further they came in contact with his mate’s
and the hatred in them was clear. was obviously torn between attacking
him and staying by ’s side and luckily for he chose the latter.
If he hadn’t, wasn’t sure he’d still be alive.
‘Don’t EVER come close to her again, bastard.’ hissed
instead, cradling in his arms as he rose, ‘Or I will kill you!’
That was all he’d said before he turned away from them and stalked into
the dark of the night. It was the last had seen of them in a year. Westlife
had been set into a break of unknown length days after and and told
him had taken away from the city and would be in touch eventually.
Both had been worried sick at what would do but took faith in the fact
he was with . Meanwhile ’s guilt started working overtime,
it was his fault ran. He hadn’t gained anything with it,
wasn’t by his side. He felt more alone then he’d ever had.
‘Do we really have to?’
stroked his finger gently down the length of her body and sighed deeply;
‘I’m afraid so. We’ve been away too long already.’ He
allowed to roll herself on top of him and wrapped his arms around her.
Locked away in a cabin somewhere deep in the mountains for a year they’d
grown very close together. The moment he held her in his arms in that dark alleyway
he knew she’d given into the connection there was between them and it
only grew stronger. He knew there was nothing that could break them apart now,
that’s how he knew it was time to get back home again.
‘I much rather stayed here, when we get back I’ll have to share
you with the rest of the world.’ An adorable little pout appeared on her
lips and grinned, kissing it away.
‘You’re gonna have me around so often, you’ll grow sick of
it, I’m sure of that.’
‘As if!’ kissed his lips again and then crawled up, sitting
up on the bed. A troubled look lay hidden in her eyes but saw right trough
it and sat up next to her, attempting to get eye contact;
‘What’s bothering you?’
‘What if will try something again?’ she spilled her thoughts,
‘You told me the reason he turned me, how can you be sure that has changed?’
‘Even if it hasn’t changed, what can he do? Nothing can ever get
between us, not even . He’s tried, failed and he knows that. You
have nothing to worry about.’ After one last kiss on top of her head,
got up from the bed and started dressing, ‘If we leave within the
hour, we could be home before midnight falls.’
followed his moves with her eyes and sighed again. 's faith did ease
the worries even if they did not disappear completely. If was able to
turn her a vampire against her will, who was to say what else he had up his
sleeve. It would cost her a lot to grow some faith in him.
As threw her a large smile she had to smile back. At least she wasn’t
alone in it, she’d always have to count upon, that would never change.
And with him by her side, she was ready to take the future as it came.
