leant back with a sigh. It was the first time in maybe 2 months that
he had the opportunity to just relax. He groaned quietly when the doorbell rang
seconds later. Reluctantly he got up and eventually opened the door, stopping
dead in his tracks. Her... He'd never expected to see her again, hadn't wanted
to see her again in the past few years.
"I'm sorry, ... let me in?"
He just raised an eyebrow, looking at her with nothing more than indifference,
the memories all flooding back...
Would you be content to see me crying
After all those little games you put me through
After all I've done for you you're lying
Wouldn't it be nice to tell the truth?
Didn't somebody somewhere say
You're heading for a fall
I gave you everything
Now here's the curtain call
She'd always been a bit difficult. Right from the beginning they had had their
differences but had put a lot of effort in this relationship to make it
work. But then...
"Don't lie to me! Who is it ye're seeing?" enquired, the look
in his eyes unusually hard.
"I swear to God, I'm not seeing anyone else but you!"
"I'm not a fool ! Just look at you!"
Her style had changed dramatically over the last few weeks, from the sweet little
country girl to a... vamp, really, with her hair dyed black and her only wearing
leather pants and jackets along with torn black shirts. had tolerated
all of this, thinking it was just a phase but more frequently he felt her being
distant and, most of all, restless... The way she avoided to meet his eyes told
him she wasn't honest but what was he supposed to do?
It was only a week later that had left with some biker boy, saying she
needed to get out and wanted to experience 'sex, drugs & rock'n'roll'.
was left behind heart-broken, wishing he'd have listened to his family and friends
who'd told him right from the start that it wasn't gonna last...
Now you've come back here to say you're sorry
But I just don't know who you're talking to
It could be the man I used to be girl
But I've grown up and now I'm over you
Standing there just a livewire
With nowhere left to turn
You were gonna set the world on fire
When will you ever learn?
", I don't know what ye want from me..."
The girl looked at him with big, teary eyes. "Please, I've got nowhere
to go... and I'm sorry... I want you back... I need you..."
Shot through the heart as I lay there alone
In the dark through the heart
It's all part of the game that we call love
When had returned home that evening he'd found in the hall, just
lacing up her shoes, a small sports bag next to her. "Where are ye going?"
She'd just shrugged, yet again avoiding to meet his eyes.
"I don't know yet... Jimmy is waiting for me outside..." had
looked at her in confusion.
"Where... why...?"
She had got up, all of a sudden looking him straight into the eyes. "I
wanna have some fun while I'm still young, ... and I can't have that here..."
had said nothing, had just watched her leave, asking himself what he'd
done wrong. He'd lain in bed night after night, his heart shattered, waiting
for someone to tell him that all of that hadn't been real. But that someone
never came....
Baby does what baby please
And baby must have what she sees
But not this time, the tables turned
Baby, you just got burned
"Ye want me back?" He almost had to laugh. It was so typically her:
always wanting to possess what she didn't already have, always wanting the things
she longed for right at that moment. But she never cared about the prize.
"Now that I have a career and that I am successful ye suddenly show up
again and want me back? After 4 years?"
There almost seemed to be something like hurt in her eyes when she looked up
sheepishly. "I thought you loved me..."
"Things have changed , I'm not the man I used to be..."
"But..."
felt a hand on his shoulder, turning slightly with a smile when the voice
he came to love so much breathed a 'Who is it, babe?' into his ear.
visibly flinched at the words, eyeing the pretty girl at 's side
suspiciously. "Nobody hun, she just got the wrong door... I'm sorry Miss
but I can't help ye..."
turned and left without as much as a goodbye. closed the door
with a feeling of contentment. Yes, he'd known she was trouble. Yes, he had
been hurt. And yes, he'd wanted her back. But now that he was over her, he knew
that there'd be no returning to the past...
Shot through the heart
It's all part of the game that we call love
The End
